Is their a widescreen version on DVD?

Yes - the Region 1 version is anamorphic widescreen, in the original ratio of 1.85:1.

Thanks. A bummer it is Region 1 cos I prefer Region 2 or 4 to keep it in the PAL domain.

Fair enough. All of the PAL versions seem to be 4:3, unfortunately.

Most of Hitch`s films are being re-released on R2 DVD tomorrow, all with extras and improved video/audio I think.

The Birds might be one of them.

My local Virgin store had the new ones today, had a quick look at the back cover of The Birds and it said it was 4:3
