Genus Vizo 1Gb Portable MP4 Player - Was £149.99 Now £49.99+extras

Picked this up in Dixons today - only seems available in-store, though here`s a link to the same product in Argos - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5334702.htm
Dixons, and Currys i believe, are selling this for £49.99 + leather carry case (worth £20) + tv/stereo out leads (worth £20)

Only drawback i can find is the 1gb memory which can`t be expanded.
Still a bargin at under £50.

Just got one of these yesterday for my sons birthday, tried it out last night (just to make sure it`s ok you know ;) ). Mrs went back and got me one for my birthday coming up soon, as I thought it was so good. Only a 2" screen but the picture quality is stunning.

The case and tv leads were accessories you have to pay for though £20 each, not in the offer. For £50 you get the Vizo with usb cable, charger, earphones etc.

Plays loads of formats:

Music: mp3, wma, ogg
Video: mp4, mpeg1, mpeg2, Divx, avi, vob, dat
Photo: jpeg
Storage: usb flash drive

It`s USB2.0, has voice recorder, line in to record from a hifi, etc. Line out to play video at full dvd resolution on a TV. The 1gb is flash memory, not a hard drive like Argos says, so better battery life as no moving parts. Quotes up to 16hrs of music playback, 4 hrs of video.

Nice metal casing too, bargain for that price. I copied a 417mb vob dvd file to it in about 5 mins and the picture quality was excellent. Same for photos, and mp3s...well just sounded like they should. No software to load, just drag and drop files in Windows Explorer.

I`m sorry my friend, but you are incorrect and I would advise you get back to the store and ask them for the free accessories. True they are available at £20 each, but if the CSA looks at the promotion codes on the till screen they will find that these are included in the offer. This is a nationwide offer, and i`ve noticed this offer is also posted on the MSE, and RPoints sites.

Just picked one up also, what would be the best (easiest to use also) software to start converting DVD`s to use on this?

Thanks for any help and thanks to OP for spotting this.

Free software.

DVD Shrink to rip the files.

VOB -> MP4 or Divx conversion use any of the following:

VEMoDe
Doctor Divx is now free\open source.
Lathe (£5) to convert to MP4\Divx if required.

Auto Gordian Knot - Does both the above steps & is also free .
Handbrake - I haven`t tried this as yet.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

http://www.fairusewizard.com All in one rip and encode, brilliant and easy, I have actually paid for the registered version.

I also think that DVD Shrink is a great program, but to just rip you can use DvdDecrypter.

I know Auto Gordian Knot is highly regarded, but I have found Fairuse Wizard to be more straightforward to use and have been very pleased with the reults.

Anyway I am off to check out Rassilon`s other suggestions as they are ones I have not come across.

I have to add, the look on the sales fellas face when I asked him where they were and then told him they were £49.99 inc the freebies was a picture! (they were still tagged as £149.99 in the store)

Ben_Franklin, there were about 6 in my store this morning, maybe worth trying another if it`s not too far away.
