What is the difference between SmartMedia Cards and Picture Cards?

Could someone please tell me the difference between these two types of card?

I had got a Kodak digital camera ages ago with one of my computers, and it came with an 8mb Kodak picture card. I would like to get a higher memory card as a backup, but what should I look for(I was looking at smartcards but I don`t know what they do :/ ?
Also would it be possible to use picture cards from other manufacturers, such as Fuji, or Olympus, as is there a De Facto standard for all picture cards or are they brand specific? Can anyone recommend a fairly cheapish place I could buy it from?

Thanks for any help given :D

RE: Just had the living s*** scared out of me!

My grandmother used to mix a little cement with flour, and when the mice would eat it, the cement mixed in their little stomachs until it set, so there were mouse paperweights lying all over the place. It proved as an incentive to other mice to bugger off and not mess with grandmother :/
(Of course it was in a more open plan environment- I wouldn`t suggest doing it in London :p )

My sister had this problem in her house so she tried the humane traps(the ones with the trapdoors) but the mice kept going in, eating the bait and then finding a way out- like tiny micey Houdinis. :) In the end she bought some yellow sticky pad things from the chemist (it`s like a piece of yellow paper coated with a strong glue.) That got rid of them in no time. But you do have to be a bit ruthless because it is a bit hard disposing of them- it`s sad when they are looking up at you with their cute little beady eyes :p

I personally would buy a sonic pest repellant, as it seems to be the most humane and effective way of getting rid of them, they just seem to disappear but not recommended if you own certain pets, such as rats and the like (I think it messes with their senses or summat` like that)

Anyway I would have to say my grandmother`s method was the most creative tho... :D
I think she may have been some sort of evil criminal mastermind *sigh* if only she used her powers to combat evil...

RE: Help Needed buying a pen drive/mp3 player...Does Size Matter? ;)

Hi,

Thanks for your recommendations :) - I haven`t yet acquired a brand spanking new mp3 player, but I bought a pen drive with similar to the one I posted about from ebay (but not from the same seller) I got the same model elsewhere but paid £41 for 512mb instead of £35 for 128mb as it was needed for college and such like, tis not going to be used for listening to music, prob be best to purchase a separate player.

It`s my Birthday next week so I have to pick one soon- not really on a budget, but looking to spend around £200...

I am spoilt for choice between:

[*]An iPod mini (just because of it`s resale value, and aesthetics, but it has lost the *snob* appeal as everyman & his dog seems to have one!)

[*]A Rio Carbon (saw it on a gadget show, and I love how it looks)

[*]A Creative Zen Micro ( an advantage to this is that you can record straight from the radio- all for perfectly legitimate reasons of course, and not breaching any copyright laws *cough*)

Plus there are millions more which are swaying my decision! :o

Decisions, Decisions! :D

RE: free sim wit 10.00pound credit on it.. great hey.

I know this is a bit late but I thought I`d just say thanks to the original poster, I got my free sim just before christmas but was away so haven`t used it yet, gave it to my dad who is very happy about the FREE credit (he`s an accountant) :D

Help Needed buying a pen drive/mp3 player...Does Size Matter? ;)

I need to buy a portable pen drive and I am undecided as to which to buy...can anyone help? I had wanted a metal outer case on the drive, simply because it is durable and because I don`t like the big plastic ugly ones, and I am purchasing it on eBay..(I know prob a bad idea, but it is cheaper than anywhere else with the same specifications.) I am also interested in MP3 players, and was considering getting an ipod but to tell the truth I don`t really know much about MP3 players but do you think the models that I am considering are a good buy?

Could anyone advise on which I should buy? The 128MB or the 512MB?

Could someone explain the difference between 128mb and 512mb...I know 512mb is larger but would it be sufficient as memory for work and for music?

I`ve heard that ipods hold upto 40GB, so would it be sensible to get the 128MB pen drive-(need a pen drive anyway to transport work and perhaps use as a dictation machine for lectures) and get a seperate MP3 player(such as an ipod)later on.

OR

Get the 512MB and use that for work and music?

To put it simply I`m asking if £70 for 512MB is a good deal considering the specifications? (The links are above)

Thanks in advance for any help...:) as I am v. confuddled with all this hi-techness

Does anyone know if there is a way of unlocking these phones so that they will work with a T-Mobile Sim? Trying to help the olds get to grip with technology, so I bought this as a spare phone for them but they are on the T-Mobile PAYG network, and when I tried to put in their sim a message comes up saying phone locked??? :/

They are availiable for £2.98 each, and the offer is for a Buy One Get One Free- HERE

Thought it might be a bargain as a friend was looking for a T- Mobile Sim for her phone and it cost £10 for one...

However just checked P&P:

TOTAL PRICE is £8.97 for 2 inc, VAT & P&P...not sure if it is a Bargain, as O2 were giving out some free sims earlier-

I`m a bit dense when it comes to mobiles & networks,etc.. Can someone tell me the
difference between O2 & T-Mobile Sims?

Lord of The Rings @ CD WOW £4.99

I know I am probably the only person in the world who has not bought it yet, but at CD Wow are the 2- Disc versions of the films, for only £4.99! And that`s without any vouchers... :)

I was considering getting the extended 4 disc sets, but I don`t think there is much point, unless you are a real die-hard LOTR fan... if you want the 2-disc versions, links are below:

The Fellowship Of The Ring

The Two Towers

I know there is a 0.75p link availiable, and a £1 Voucher but I don`t have the URL for either of them, perhaps a google search may help? :D (The £1.50 link is no longer working)

Perhaps if you are really lucky (or cheap!) you can get it for £3.24 by using the link and the voucher.... ;)

RE: Sony Widescreen Nicam Wega £235

Awww....we needed a new TV, but methinks` tis offer is gone! :(

RE: Woolworths mobiles - absolutely astounding deals!!!

Hi toppdogg75, How did you order the phone? Did you go through the express checkout or did you just click order?

I had to re-order the phone about 3 times because it did not come up as ordered, it was only registered as ordered once I used the Express checkout. :( Only after I did that did I get my order number for my one order. The website seemed to have an error on it yesterday when I ordered,(about 7pm) after you checkout...make sure you have an order number to confirm you did place one...otherwise it may not have gone through :( (It`s in the My Accont page of the main website)

Anyway I rang them today, the person on the other end seemed really nice, said they would ring back *fingers crossed we all get our order* :/

Oh and thanks to the original Poster! :)

RE: Amelie

I absolutely loved the film, but that could be because I saw it with no expectations, I hadn`t actually heard of it, or seen any reviews ... :)

Just curious though...those of you that hated Amelie, did you also hate Moulin Rouge? The direction of both could be seen as similar in some aspects; I think they are both very vibrant visual films...I dunno I just found that people who hate Amelie also detest Moulin Rouge...one of my friends says both films make him feel dizzy :/

RE: Best films to watch on Christmas Eve to get you into the spirit?

I vote for the Muppet Christmas Carol too! :D
BTW I just thought I`ll let anyone know:

You can get the Muppets Christmas Carol DVD for £6.99 normally £17.99 from here! (I just bought one recently-perfect to get you in the christmas spirit!)

RE: lotr 12 disc box set

Yeah, the Extended Edition Trilogy has the same blue packaging as the eROTK box set. But the price is now £49.99 from Tesco perhaps it may be cheaper at Play.com or at Amazon... :)

BTW... Did anyone get this for 32.99 or even 43.99?

RE: lotr 12 disc box set

I think you got this info from here (they state a £5 off voucher) ... but it appears that Tesco have raised their price again... :/

RE: Argos clearance 75% *OFF* loads of items, starts Fri Oct 8

AWWWW....Phillips phone is out of stock!!! :(

School of Rock £5.99 @CDWOW

It is Region 3- I don`t think there would be that much difference from region 1 or 2 , If you use the £1 voucher (it`s a couple of threads down in this forum) and the 75p Link, then it is only £4.24 :)

Bargain DVDs in Woolies?

Woolworths are doing the usual clearout by reducing most of their DVD lines to make them half price...not really much to mention, but I did see the extended versions (4 Disc) of the first 2 LOTR, films for £17.99 - Good if you want them, but can`t be bothered to order on the Internet and wait for it via snail mail. Most of the DVD`s were around the £5.99-7.99 mark, such as 8 mile and 2- disc set of The Italian Job. But the main "Bargain" :/ were the seven rows of Dungeons & Dragons, which were priced at £1.99, (I personally hated the film, but if anyone likes it, it is v. cheap esp. for the original DVD... :D )

RE: Super Skeeter!

I don`t know about the planes, but I bought a couple of these rubber band guns, they are much better than the ol` finger and thumb method :D (Kept my friends and I entertained on many a rainy day...) :p

But I have no idea who in their right mind would want one of these? :o

(And why are there only men modelling them??? We girls are just as childish ;) )
