    Synopsis:
Think of the greatest terror imaginable. Is it a monstrous alien? A lethal epidemic? Or, as in this harrowing masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick, is it fear of murder by someone who should love and protect you - a member of your own family?

From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing setting, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone of the macabre.

In a signature role, Jack Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, who`s come to the elegant, isolated Overlook Hotel as off-season caretaker with his wife and son. Torrance has never been there before - or has he? The answer lies in a ghostly time warp of madness and murder.

A classic Horror, superior to 99% of all other films in this genre. But it trancends genre, it`s about Man. The finely balanced tension between the supernatural and madness is cleverly interwoven. It runs at 142 Minutes and contains alot more footage than thew 115m English version. It`s actually intriguing seeing alot of scenes not in the UK version and even the UK TV version, It is a different version, I`m not sure better or worse though, that`s debatable.

The Transfer is the least impressive of all the new Kubrick DVD collection series released in 2001. There are aliasing problems apparrent, occasionally in the movie. The sound really comes accross well, which is good as Kubrick knew how to use Music better than most...
