No one in their right mind would ever call any of these films the acme of the cinematic medium. At best they are a fun way to waste ninety minutes, crude humour with broad characters and daft clichés. At their worst, they can be quite embarrassing. This is the boxset you keep hidden in a cupboard, while you leave your Truffaut and Kurosawa collection on the shelves. But you’ll probably watch these films more, or at least a couple of them.<newline><newline>[url="http://www.myreviewer.com/default.asp?a=203493"][imgmc=0000285466.jpg][/url]<newline>The first four films are where the value in this set is at; only Steve Guttenberg has the requisite puppy dog look to make the childish prank comedy in these films really work, and the series still has energy and vitality, and a refusal to kowtow to political correctness. The final three films don’t, and it’s a case of diminishing returns as the series comes to a belated and tired end, although the final film does try and claw a little funny back.<newline><newline>[url="http://www.myreviewer.com/default.asp?a=203467"][imgmc=0000285440.jpg][/url]<newline>But I’ll be honest. I only got this collection because it was cheaper than buying the first two Police Academy films that I really wanted separately. There were times watching these movies that I thought it would have worth paying more for less...<newline><newline>
