You do, eh?  Thanks.  That may just be a degree of autism, as I'm generally more rational than people tend to like.

Just for the record, this is his tweet:

This is the original source image:

Notice how cropped the one in Pascal's tweet is and look in particular to the right hand side of this picture and the smiling girl.  Oh, and how I didn't notice previously, but the twisty bars at the bottom - not sure they're a feature of ICE camps.

This picture apparently appeared in the Los Angeles Times in August of 2010 and has also been used in propaganda to smear Israel for their treatment of Palestinians (do a Google search on the image above, like I did), despite it apparently not being the subject of either accusation.  I couldn't find it at the LA Times, but it's been quoted on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/booraddly/status/1359878613148041222

I don't like the idea of children being locked up in detention camps but ultimately they are illegal aliens/migrants, having crossed into the United States illegally.  So what should we do?

Should ICE just let everyone through and then encourage even more people to make that journey?  Possibly, as they're coming anyway and US landmass is big enough to support them, so maybe the solution is to naturalise them and convert them into taxpayers.

On the other hand, wouldn't a better solution be to try to solve the problem at source and ensure better living conditions in their home countries?  Then families wouldn't need to trek thousands of miles and risk life and limb to search for a better life in better off countries.

The solution is more complex than either of us can ever agree, but either way it's still not genocide.

In the year of Pascal's tweet, there were apparently 348, 996 people in detention camps.  This was a process that started under Bill Clinton in 1996 with the enactment of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty and the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility acts, when the number of detained immigrants was only 8,500 but that number rose exponentially over the next few decades.

You can find more details on Wiki (including a nice graph on detention rates) here:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_detention_in_the_United_States

In the meantime, feel free to carry on thinking the worst of me...

It doesn't really matter what the source of image, it's accuracy, all that matters is the point he was trying to make, which was that he drew parallels to the separating of children (regardless of what President signed what order) from their families with Nazi Germany...

vs

Someone equating an intolerance by other people to their political views (which has no parallels at all in the US right now when 46.9% of the country shares enough of them to vote the same way) to Nazi Germany.

Again, it's depressing you don't see the difference. But I know nothing I can say will change your mind.

The same is true over here, believe me.

I get the point he was trying to make, and I don't have the answer to that (and neither, I suspect do you or he) but the comparison was a crass one - more crass than the one that Carano was trying to make, which I have already mentioned was "a hyperbolic comparison to be sure but way short of the other".

As you know, the Nazi's didn't just separate children from their parents.  They butchered many of them.  There are estimates that 1.5 million children were killed during the Holocaust.  Are we really suggesting similar has happened in ICE detention camps?

That's why the comparison is completely insane and falls foul of Godwin's Law.

This isn't about me defending Carano's tweet as fine but Pascal's as abhorrent.  It's about a clear double standard as both invoked Godwin's Law to make their point.  One was punished and sacked whilst the other wasn't even condemned by anyone including yourself.

We've clearly reached the nadir of Godwin's Law in that we're now arguing which Nazi comparison argument is worse than the other...

Not expecting this to change anyone's mind, especially as the interviewer is Ben Shapiro, but I thought it was interesting and pretty uncontroversial in that she doesn't take the opportunity to dish the dirt on anyone...

it still seems like she was naive and didn't listen to the warnings, if your boss calls you in the office and tells you to be careful, as a friendly warning, then a few months later does it again, then you listen and keep your nose clean.

having said that, the fact they didn't use her in publicity before the event etc says a lot, and as other news sources have pointed out, she wasn't fired, she didn't have her contract renewed, which is subtly different.

I also wonder what her peers on set think about it all? Are they quiet as they're worried about their jobs, or they tried to help her, or are they glad? I know Mando tried to help her at least once.

I hadn't heard of Shapiro really before he jumped in to her defence, I guess he thinks she's ideal poster girl for his film he's selling?

The first thing is covered in the video to a degree without naming names.  Up to the viewer to make up their own mind about how true it is.

Shapiro's not selling a film of his, he is allowing her to create her own - big difference...
