"And with one bound she was free!"

Yeah, I just think X-Files is a bit rubbish now. Used to love it. Maybe it's just everything else has got so much better now and the standards have moved on?

Watched on Channel 5 last night, Smoking man back yet again from the dead in the first episode, and Skully with the plastic surgery look, and Mulder looking really craggy and rough round the gills now. Plus story is pathetic, acting drastic. Should have been put out to pasture years ago.

Summing up: Used to take this show serious when it first started years ago. Pity, its went downhill.

I think it's basic premise was of-its-time, shadowy governments, aliens... the internet has ruined that for us all.

Mostly now we are watching because we love Mulder and Scully, quite if that's enough anymore...

Well the automation episode was just spectacularly good from start to finish :), Scary, silly, smart, dumb, clever funny all in one episode, and if I'm not mistaken written by Bandi? and most of all totally relatable , well most of it :).... oh and was i mistaken or was that SPOILER:
Stephen King in the booth behind them in the diner at the end?

I didn't like the automation episode, well it was okay, but I thought it was a dream sequence for a while, and then when I realised it wasn't it just felt a bit stupid. :/

Familiar was great though, like some of the best old episodes!

It's time to retire the X-Files for good. Season 11 was 8 episodes of suckage. Watched the last two episodes last night, and I was hard pressed to recall any highlights of the season.

Season 10 was good, in that once you ignored the usual Chris Carter conspiracy arc rubbish, you had 4 episodes that exemplified the X-Files, original, sharp ideas, well executed, a nice mix of dark and comic.

Season 11 had three conspiracy episodes, the bookends and Ghouli, and can be instantly dismissed as rubbish. But the standalone episodes were either wholly derivative of ideas explored already, or the comic ones descended into utter parody, where they ought to be able to exist in the X-Files universe.

About the only episodes I appreciated were Familiar and Kitten (the one that gave Skinner back story). Last night's Nothing Lasts Forever felt like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer ep.

I liked parts of it, but some of it is rather confusing, was season 10 all a vision of the future and season 11 events leading not quite up to that future?

If that's wrong, then I don't know what I was watching. If it was right, the random filler episodes in season 11 didn't make sense. All this going on around them and they stop to do normal (for The X-Files) FBI things?

I think it's like 24, it's had it's time, you can never go back without reinventing it in some way, you can't just do the same old things. David Lynch knew this with Twin Peaks, so he did radical new things and mixed in the old.

I think I just watched it for Mulder and Scully. I think I read Gillian Anderson said she wouldn't be returning for more, so maybe they'll just kill it now.

Best to kill it off now.

What finished it to me was the deliberate mockery episode on the Mandela effect to debunk it.

A lot of people are now seeing this effect, mainly from 2012 onwards, and cannot understand why they see their reality is subtly changing,  and were angered by the total junk the X-files showed, instead of making it an interesting episode.
