Vietnam

If you have any interest in recent history and are not watching this series I suggest you do.

It's equally as good as the old World at War from years back narrated by Laurence Olivier and Peter Coyote in this series does at least as good a job, arguably better.

Vietnam, you think off the Americans were there and got their asses kicked, but unfortunately 60,000 Australians were there too, over 500 died, and one of my uncles was conscripted into that war, but said it was so vicious he never wanted to talk about.

Luckily for the UK, Harold Wilson the labour prime minister at the time kept Britain out of that war, so saved many UK troops lives.

We always tend to think of Vietnam as an American war but I'd be really interested to see a documentary about the Aussie involvement in this.

This series is superb though, good mix of footage and interviews from both sides.

If you plug 'Australians in the vietnam war' into Youtube videos search, there are many harrowing tales echoing the exact same that was happening to the American troops during and after the war.

Snaps, thanks for the recommendation, just watched the last episode.
Ken Burns is an extraordinary documentary maker.

Just finished the last episode myself and somewhat blown away by it.
One of the best documentary series I've seen.

The Vietnam war was an ever present fact of my youth. I used to do a lot of what they now call street photography but used to be labelled reportage so I was hovering round the fringes of a few Grosvenor square demos, though not the ones were it really kicked off.

I thought the interviews were very well done. Whoever did them really managed to get their subjects to open up with their memories. Also thought just name, rank and number on the subjects and not putting the small bios on each contributor until the end of the last episode was an intelligent move.

Can't imagine that it's not available somewhere and somehow.

Edit: It's on pbs.org in the States so maybe with a VPN?

Oh it looks like they are repeating it so I just need to wait, which is also why the first two episodes are available.
