TV Remake, reboots

So with so many being redone, Still Open All Hours, X-Files, 24, Heroes among many are there any shows you would like to get an update? I was watching Mission Impossible original series and with todays tech i think it would be a cracking show nowadays, unfortunately with Tom Cruise owning the rights (i think) it is highly unlikely....

Space 1999 or Blake's 7 have a lot of potential! But part of me thinks no matter what series I'd love to see come back, they'd only ruin it. :/

Didn't Mission Impossible get a second series in the late eighties?

I'd like to see Space Above and Beyond, Highwayman, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Blue Thunder, Manimal and the like get a second chance. Shows with good premises that only had one season, turned out good and were cancelled, or turned out crap, might succeed given today's effects technology and worldview. Basically most of the shows I liked while I was growing up, but the networks never did.

Of course then there's Firefly, but that was more the casting than the premise, and that's harder to get right.

Blakes 7 has been muted several times, however there have been many legal wranglings over the intellectual property rights.  Terry Nation's family are perhaps the biggest stumbling block, an American Company via Sci-fi Channel have come closest to a reboot...  probably Babylon5 has been the nearest thing to staying true to the origins...  always been surprised that its not been repeated on Dave or one of the other channels.

I believe that only having had 4 series, that is part of the magic... a reboot, or remake 50 years later may be the way forwards?

Its a real shame as Dr Who was of the same mould, and that was resurrected succcefully (to begin with IMHO), sadly the original cast are disappearing, Michael Jackson (Olag Gan), Peter Tuddenham (Zen/Orac/Slave) are no longer with us... Paul Darrow (Avon) has very recently had life changing illness, Jacqueline Pearce (Servelan) lives a quite life in Spain, Michael Keating (Vila Restel) is stll about a vicar apperently in East Enders, Brian Croucher (Travis 2) has also been recently in EE... the others have been conspicuous by their absence from the screen...

Sadly i am a bit of Blakes 7 geek, having all 52 episodes still on the original issue VHS, along with the 4 feature length episodes, i have the DVD's, various items of clothing, all the annuals and books... signed photos, various models and replica's... along with a unique tattoo leg piece

Oh I never knew that, that's awful news. Driving to and from London (at least until I hit Basingstoke) I got an insane amount of pleasure listening to his links on Jack FM, was weeks before I could even bring myself to listen to it once it had been rebranded Sam FM and ended up with half of Hale and Pace doing them instead.

The 80;s MI series was done in Australia and most if not all of them were word for word copies from the original scripts which while not bad did suffer from not having the original cast (well it had a couple of them, Barney turned up to help his son and Phelps was same actor which kind of held it together) but did date because of the technology leaps from the 60's to the 80's

Always enjoyed Blake7, would not like to see a remake, as it is just perfect as is.

Funny thing was, never liked the Welsh actor that played Blake, but luckly Blake was out the show for a long time.

Thought the storylines were very good, especially the one where Avon was trying to throw Vila out the airlock to save weight to prevent the spaceship crashing, and ended up having to push the condensed matter out the airlock by himself. So trust was totally lost after that between them!

TV Remakes, reboots are always going to be subject to criticism from fan boys.

A great example was Knight Rider, When the original series aired (1982) I was a 10 year old that just loved the car and the fact that it could talk and had turbo boost, I didn't really care about acting and plots back then.

Fast forward to 2008 I was a 36 year old still getting excited about a talking car, The great thing about the new series was that it carried on from the original series, Michael Knight returned (in the pilot) and it had plenty of nods to the original series.
However the fanboys were p***ed because the Pontiac Trans Am was replaced by a Shelby Mustang

and the fact that The Hoff wasn't behind the wheel.
The series wasn't helped by the presidential election taking place and the TV slot was being moved about virtually every week.

Sadly the series was cancelled I personally thought it was a worthy continuation and deserved a 2nd season, I bought the DVD box set and signed online petitions but it wasn't to be   .

On the plus side the likes of Doctor Who, Auf Wiedersehen pet made it back so part of my childhood is satisfied.

I'm just hoping They get The X Files right.

Firefly as an animated series? :)

Nice idea, wouldn't be the same though.
