Bobsleigh is just insane, 86mph they reach! Who would invent such a crazy sport, I asked myself? Then I asked Wikipedia...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobsleigh#History

Quote:
Although sledding on snow or ice had been popular in many northern countries, the origins of bobsleighing as a modern sport are relatively recently. Its foundation began when hotelier Caspar Badrutt (1848–1904) managed to convince some English tourists to stay at his hotel in the mineral spa town of St. Moritz, Switzerland through the entire winter. He successfully sold the idea of "winter resorting" to his English regulars with food, alcohol and activities. Badrutt took this action because he had been annoyed his regular guests were only staying at his hotel during the summer months.

Within a couple of years, wintering in St Moritz at Badrutt's hotel became very fashionable. But increased numbers led those who were staying to search for new diversions. In the early 1870s some adventurous English guests began adapting boys' delivery sleds for recreational purposes and began colliding with pedestrians while speeding down the lanes, alleys and roads in St Moritz.

So, basically drunken Brits abroad...

I am enjoying it this year, especially the snowboarding events and womans super G with Izzy Atkin getting Bronze for the UK.

Brings back memories of my sking days till I landed or rocks on my back, and gave it up, before I killed myself

I have been sking once for a day.
Correction: I spent a day on my ar*e with skis on my feet watching 5 year olds hurtling round having been put on them before they were out of nappies.

Not for me.

Watching the 2 man bob reminded me of a pantomime horse which got me thinking whether the Brits would do it for a lark and to Mozart's A Musical Joke?

Well we had 'Eddie the Eagle", and he was a hero in my eyes, as it was the Olympic spirit of participating and not the winning that counted.

Mind you he had no chance of winning

Watch the Brits ice skating:

Really beautiful, so in time with each other, just missed out on the top 10.

And then you watch who came first:

...makes you think nobody else should even be in the top 10.
