The Official Arsenal 2017/18 Season Thread

The fixtures for the new season were released this morning and seems like a good time to start the new season thread.
Leicester at home on the first day followed by two away trips to Stoke and Liverpool before Bournemouth back at home.
If we come out of that with 12 points I'll be amazed.

Full list on the club site

First result of the pre-season a 2.0 win v FC Sydney.
Mertesacker with very nearly an overhead! Takes a lot to get that big frame into that position so more of an over shoulder.
...and Lacazette gets his first within 15 mins of coming on. The very short clip I've seen seems to have a less than impressed Giroud.

EDIT: Did the HFB a disservice. Seen a longer clip now and he's just a late arrival to the celebration.

I like reading that Ozil wants to stay, wish they'd hurry up and sort out his contract. And sort out if Sanchez is staying or going.

Ozil may well be saying that as there doesn't seem to have been any interest in him.
As for Sanchez I think that one's down to Kronke. It appears Arsene will hang on to him and let his contract run down but it depends whether Stan is prepared to wave bye bye to 80 million or so.

Caught the last 5 mins and pens and just watched the highlights.
As long as we didn't get massively stuffed I'd have been happy with any result after a good performance and that was a good performance from what I saw.
Iwobi looks like he's going to have a breakout season.
Kolosinac just seems to shrug of any contact and that goal won't do him any harm at all. A future fan favourite I reckon.
Ox is looking confident and could have a good season (if he stays).

Nice to win something early on though.

I usually start the season unreasonably optimistic, which for me is a bloody miracle anyway.
This year I can't shake that 'Yeh whatever' state of mind.
The ridiculous level of transfer fees, Never mind the 200 million backhanded stitch up that is the Neymar deal in what reality is Kyle Walker worth 50 million?

Sanchez has reportedly turned down an offer of 300 thousand a week so even if he stays he can sign for City in January.
We've a sea of players we want rid of that nobody seems to want, yet.
Then we've got the joy of Europa league which Wenger will probably play all the second string in.
I've been trying to avoid looking at all the pundit previews but someone Tweeted a list of top four predictions which was entirely Manchester for the top two and we feature for our inevitable 4th spot in about two thirds of them.

I really hope we put down a marker tonight but I wont be surprised if it's a dull game won by a single goal either way.

Well, it wasn't dull! Can't watch Sky sports anymore, I don't think it's worth the money so had to listen to 5live. They mentioned that Piers Morgan posted on twitter #Wengerout. Didn't take long.....

As he's a Trump lover could we get him a job as Trump's ambassador to the DPRK.
Love 5Live but I now find it very difficult to listen to radio commentary of a match that I give a toss about.

I watched it on Sky, so I got a scouser moaning about Arsenal's zonal marking and not putting people on the posts during set pieces, and going on and on about the same old defensive problems, whilst simultaneously praising their movement and passing.

Leicester where just as bad defensively during set pieces and didn't get the same treatment till the end of the game.

A good win, if Leicester turn out to be a difficult team this season for others, only time will tell. Sanchez watching from the stands probably thinking he was glad to be off to City.

Kolasinac completely at fault for one of the goals, but still looks like a really strong signing if he can get to grips with the 3 at the back system.

Lacazette looks like the striker we've needed for years, really good ball control, and the sort of striker teams will be scared to give any space or time to. Looks instantly at home in the Premier league.

I'm slightly more optimistic now after MOTD.
Chelski making a complete dog's breakfast of it and LFC looking like they're carrying the same defensive frailty forward to this season.
Suddenly our 4.3 is put in a bit of perspective.

Third looks a distinct possibility.
Huddersfield for the league.

C'mon the Toon army!
