DVDSoon - good as they seem?

DazMack1979 (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 20th September 2003, 08:55

Been shopping around using a very good price comparison website mentioned on BBC teletext - www.dvdpricecheck.co.uk - and for pretty much everything I check, DVDSoon come up as the cheapest:

Monty Python`s Flying Cicus Complete Collection £99.99 at Play (usual supplier) and only £68(approx) through them. :D

Same with a lot of other titles too - anyone had any problems with them before? Since they`re Canadian I`m talking customs charges mainly, but overall are they sound?

Well I use them all the time and have never ever had a problem. I`ve got about 5 pre-orders with them at the minute and I think they`re fantastic. Best thing about them is that they`re very very cheap!!!

People complain about their service, but I e-mailed them on Thursday and got a reply back the following day. And hell, if you have that much of a problem call them! I definitely recommend them, why don`t you order 1 DVD and see how you get on?

I`ve ordered probably a dozen or so DVDs from dvdsoon.com over the last year without a problem. They seem to have the cheapest prices anywhere on the Net, but they can be slow to deliver (if you`re in a rush, I`d recommend cdwow.com or play.com, but both tend to have higher prices).

One thing to watch out for is that they charge your credit card at the time of the order and not at the time of shipping, so if you`re putting a pre-order in, you might want to consider this as a negative. Having said that, I haven`t had problems with pre-orders (they`ve shipped me "Matrix Reloaded" at something like 12 quid, which makes Woolies TV-advertised "sale" price of 18 quid somewhat laughable) - "Finding Nemo" (11.50 quid - it`s hilarious that the US/Canadian DVD is out only 4 weeks after the movie hits UK theatres !) and the 4-disc LOTR Two Towers (19 quid) are both on pre-order with them...I might even get a free badge with the latter cos I pre-ordered it in July.

Average time from the shipping notification e-mail to getting the discs from dvssoon.com is about 5 days - don`t forget the usual risk you take if start ordering box sets from non-UK sites (i.e. import duty and VAT can kick in), but I`ve not been hit by that from CD WOW, play.com or dvdsoon.com.

Never used them myself - mainly from searching these forums and reading the stories of how their back up service is no good.

I received a large box from DVD Soon yesterday, just 5-days after getting shipping confirmation. I ordered Smallville season 1, Larry Sanders season 1 and the Lion King Giftset. No sniff of customs either. None of my previous DVD Soon packages had any problems with customs and I`ve ordered literally tonnes of stuff. Fingers crossed...

Only just satrted using them really had two things delivered and got got a few outstanding orders.

Items seem to take around 5-7 days after despatch email from my experience so far.

What concerns me is that they actually display what is in the envelope on the label--seems stupid/dangerous, no others seem to do this so why do these have to!

Both my orders i`ve received are BOTH SNAPPER CASES when the site said they were KEEP CASES.
So this p#ssed me off a bit but there is probably no point in contacting them about it as i can`t imagine they will do anything about it.

But i will continue to use them at present.
Ok thats all.

I`m on the plus side with DVDSoon. They are my main source of Region 1 and I have never had a problem. I agree about the practice of putting the contents on the customs label. Mabye it`s something to do with 9/11. I`ve never lost anything though so it`s a testa ment to the honesty of both the postmen and the customs people. I expect I`ve jinxed myself now.
