I've used Clean Master regularly for ages but just uninstalled it as I kept getting windows up with a run time error.
I was about to re install but before I do thought I'd ask what anyone else recommends.

Does your PC have an SSD? I find PC's are so fast today (with SSD'S) that the answer to what I recommend is nothing.
These supposed system cleaners have potential to do far more harm than good. These 'duplicates' really aren't slowing down your system like they constantly tell you you are (are you also being spied on etc....) - the apps are there to tell you how slow your system is and either sell you something to 'fix' it or show you ads.
Tgey give you a warm feeling you're doing your bit to keep your PC healthy, but you're probably not.

ccleaner help my laptop fulfil it's ambition of installing a windows update by cleaning up crap, but it was probably teh other stuff it does as well as just removing files.
As SJ says, there is a certain amount of snake oil, or rather the free version does a good, job, but if you want a really good job, you need to buy teh full version.
Having said that, I haven't run ccleaner since the update worked, and won't until it has problems again.

I thought Windows had a built in clean up for deleting temp files like updates? Free disk space or something? (Sorry on a Mac right now so can't check)

Consensus seems to be I don't need it as the OS is running on an SSD.
