Laptop recommendations

Eldest who is 10, wants a laptop... she is saving her pennies towards the goal of buying one either before christmas, or in the new year sales?

Essentially she just wants it for school work, as next september starts big school! (not quite sure where the time went as i remember announcing on here when she was born?)

She has no real idea about specification, or any brand interest... what ever she saves i am sure that bank of dad will end up topping up the kitty.

I reckon these days £400 give or take is a healthy budget... dont want anything that is out of date 2 years later.

Any one been in the market for similar and got a recommendation, or seen a pre-christmas/january sale bargain?

Thanks in advance

Ironically, after the HP news article today, I bought this a couple of weeks ago.
Decent i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.  I could never go back to a non-SSD laptop.  It was massive on Hotukdeals.

Ste

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

that looks like the newer/improve version of the one I bought my missus a year or so ago, funnily enough using hukd from ebuyer :) we've been happy with it, and it isn't listed as having the vulnerabilities posted about HP laptops.

I don't think it was quite that expensive, hers is an i5 with a hdd not ssd and 4gb ram I think. Anyway, it's fine for internet, streaming videos, facebook etc, she doesn't play games, use photoshop or anything else intensive on it.
