Home internet network performance monitoring...

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 9th November 2017, 09:36

I live in a townhouse and use homeplugs on each floor for wired connections to my XBox and TV.  Internet comes in on the ground floor and TV is on the first and Xbox second floor.

At times I get kicked out of my online games and Netflix also stops working and buffers to 25% before saying I have no internet connection.

What I wanted to know is, is there some basic software out there that can run on my laptop and monitor the network?  I'd like to know how reliable the internet connection is at the source and whether the dropouts are due to Sky or the homeplugs.

Is this possible?

You could try Ping Plotter Free:

You would be relying on the assumption that whatever is affecting your Xbox or TV at the moment Netflix or your online game goes laggy, also affects everything else in your house, but as long as you bear that in mind...

I have used Chris's suggestion for the same purpose.
