Page 1 of Headphone problem

I use headphones on the PC a lot due to the unsociable hours I keep.
Quite happily watching something on Youtube, click pause to go and get a drink, come back click start and the headphones are not working and everything's coming through the speakers.
It's not them the headphones themselves as I've tried another set. Gone through device management, checked the driver, and the troubleshooter can't find anything wrong so I'm flummoxed.

EDIT: Now done a soft restart with the button on the PC and the situation is reversed. Headphones working, speakers which are built in to the monitor, are now off.
Trying a restart before via Windows had no effect.

Does replying to my own thread count as talking to myself.

Sorted but no idea why it went wrong in the first place.
Reset monitor as default device and headphones now work as well as switch off speakers when plugged in where they didn't before.

At least your sorted now as I was going to suggest looking at your device manager, and reset.

I have. Win7 at home, and speaker symbol sometimes starts up as muted, with a red cross through the symbol, but can be corrected by holding symbol! and siding its volume control and sound returns
