Malware pages popup in Chrome

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Monday, 18th July 2016, 13:49

Seems my chrome browser has had maliciious software put on it from somewhere, both my Ant-virus AVG and super anti spyware programs do not detect it. I need a solution please.

First of all my homepage got hacked away from google homepage, and comes up with a malware home page (safesurfs.net) with links I do not want to click.

I deleted and reinstated chrome and got the google homepage back, but now when I go to different websites, I occasionally get an extra tab opening and up comes a malware website, like saying ' you computer has problems click here to sort' and it will not let me leave the webpage.

I have to press control alt delete and shutdown chrome that way, to get rid of the webpage and then start up chrome again.

Can you help me get rid of this malware on my Chrome browser, recommend a program to sort it?

I noticed also that Internet explorer which I have as backup browser (which I hardly use) also displays this malware problem. So its something in the computer software that is affecting any browser operation.

Try downloading the Avira rescue CD, burning it and booting to it directly then scanning for AV:

If you can, do this from a computer that isn't infected, just in case.

Try Malware Bytes

https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Install the free version (ignore the free premium trial), run a scan and delete anything it finds.

Thanks for the very quick replies guys, I have ran the malwarebytes program as it looked easier to do, and it came up with 27 threats, so deleted them.

That's been an hour on the internet now on Chrome browser and have not seen any malicious popup website, so hoping that's it sorted.

Cheers Bandicoot :D

Update, cleaning those threats seemed to work OK.

As an extra precaution, I set chrome back to factory settings, in case anything sneaky was still in there, but had to put all my webpage passwords back in, took an hour, forgot it did that, DOH!

Also restored windows back to an earlier restored date, of a month ago. So that's it sorted. Thank goodness.

Glad it worked out okay. It's worth running it every so often just to check if anything has secretly infiltrated your system.
