Was just going to look at this 'Controlled Folder access' - but it's greyed out..
It seems that you can't use it if you use a third party AV solution...

Went from the Anniversary to the Creators update a week or so ago, and have an annoying hassle.

Every other boot or so, the default browser starts up with this windows help page...

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/products/windows?os=windows-10

I can't find anyway to stop it from happening. There's nothing obvious in the start-up tab on Task Manager, and nothing obvious on CCleaner's Start-up tab either, but something's calling my browser when Windows starts.

new update is out for spring, be warned, when it tells you it will take a while, it does take a while to do the restart after downloading and installing, so it's probably best to to do install and reset in the evening ready for morning, rather than install and shutdown.

Bit of a bump

Splashed out on a new laptop today, which came with W10 installed, and frankly, it's bloody horrific compared to the nice, comfy W7 I've still got on my PC. A good 2 hours was spent this afternoon disabling intrusive ad systems. Also, and I don't want to come across all 'Bandicooty', but the seamless integration between this lappy, by Phone, my PC and my kids' Xbox in the bedroom upstairs was so easy it actually came acdross as scary.

Like anything, I'll probably just have to sit down with it for 5 days to get all the ins and outs figured out, but I'm beginning to think I'd have rather plumped for a 6-year old hunka junk off ebay

I'm in the same boat! My brand newly built games PC went Windows 10 a few months ago so I had a little time to get used to bits of it, but that's not the same as using it for my main work PC.

After realising I had a year before Windows 7 becomes end of life, and an ever growing number of apps that are Win 10 only, I decided to image my C drive in case I had license issues using my various Win 7/8/8.1 keys and try it.

Three things are absolutely driving me mad atm:

  • I have no sound, I have no idea why, this worked fine under Win 7, usual things aren't helping
  • My Wacom Intuos artpad has a swipe gesture that opens task view, ALL THE TIME, with one finger, whenever I move the cursor from left to right on the left third of the pad. It's insanely annoying
  • It seems to be using OneDrive for Documents/Desktop/etc folders which are syncing with my games PC downstairs, I don't want this!

I'm ok with all the tracking/ad disabling, I did it once already for my other machine and it only takes 5 minutes.

Also having an iPhone and no Xbox (unless you count the original!) there is no seamless integration, which I'm glad about. I already have that between my watch, phone and Macbook!

Sounds fixed finally, using the App Center app that goes with my Gigabyte motherboard to install the right drivers (and then a bit of unplug/plugging of the cables).

Swipe gesture fixed, newer artpad driver had an option to disable that.

OneDrive I think is fixed thanks to this:

Now back to the install-my-old-apps-and-restore-settings game...

I must not use anywhere near all the bells and whistles available on 10.
It's been working fine for me with the limited load I put on it. The only problem I'm having is constantly having to reset the Ethernet adaptor. I'm always getting a 'failed to find a valid IP address'. Only a couple of clicks through the troubleshooter fixes it. Which is probably why I've been too lazy to investigate further.
