A bit late to seeing the article you posted above
but I came to post about a related problem.
I bought a micro itx MSI Nightblade last year that had Windows 8 installed and I got the free upgrade to Windows 10. Last week I bought a GTX 1060 to replace the 960 but hadn't quite pressed the PCI release catch down properly. I managed to get the card out while also managing to rip the runner clean off the board and destroying the pins underneath. A new motherboard later and everything is working great but my Windows refuses to activate because the PC configuration has changed.
Now I have to get in touch with Microsoft support to try and get this fixed. I'll update if I have any joy.
Using XP i had to phone them once for my home pc after changing too msny bits and once for work, both i remember being relatively painless. Automated process where a long number is read to you in sections. Good luck i hope it goes well
Mobo often causes this issue :( oem PCs the key is invisble to user normally but on the bios.

I tend to get more informed opinion on 'tech' than from Which (not sure where it ranks compared the the silver surfer IT equivalent that is Computeractive) or the beeb.
I happen to think that W10 is a rather good OS with some nice improvements over W7. Sure, there's certainly some settings that you probably should change from the default (not sure how different that is from a new Apple or Android phone) but really not sure it's worthy of some of the negativity.

What would you say those were, out of interest?

I do quite a bit of file copying/moving and like the simple things like transfer progress and speed etc (I know it was in Win 8 but steered well clear of that). And the ability to pause a copy is really helpful sometimes.

Windows 10 now losing market share:

But got to take that with a pinch of salt, more likely to have stalled.
In other related news, my old laptop which dual boots to Win 10 and Win 7, thought I better launch Win 10 for the first time this year and let it update. Stuck on 34% downloading update for about 3 hours, even a reboot doesn't fix it.
Well done Microsoft, you still can't manage to handle a basic simple part of your OS that you should have solved 10 years ago.
