RE: The Speccy reborn

There are two facebook groups.  One for RCL, the company who are supposed to be producing the Vega+.  The other is for those who don't believe it will be delivered and have (maybe) legitimate concerns about RCL and how they run things.

The RCL page has a habit of deleting critical or semi-critical posts and banning people.

A couple of ex-Directors are involved in the non-RCL group.

At the weekend RCL posted that they had suffered a security breach and that they had lost control of a couple of domains.  The assumption within the non-RCL group was that this was down to pure incompetence and the domains had simply lapsed and been made available for sale, at which point a person or persons unknown had snapped them up.

At least one of the ex-directors commented on the speculation and did nothing to quell the speculation about the cause of this loss of domains.

Tonight it turned out that one of the directors had been seeking advice from Nominet amongst others.  It's common knowledge that RCL had used his name on the domains and Indiegogo page as a contact despite him parting ways a while ago.  He was having trouble getting RCL to acknowledge his requests to get his name removed.

Nominet apparently told him that the only way to get his name off the domains was to relinquish ownership and release them.  Which he did.

No problem with that in the slightest, just the fact that this was hidden from the non-RCL group when I believe he should have been open about it.  I made my feelings clear and that triggered a long thread, but in what must surely be a first in social media history, it didn't degenerate into a slanging match.

Whilst that was still going on, the other ex-director then admitted he had bought the two domain names deliberately after they were flagged to him as available to buy.

And whilst I agree with the general consensus that neither did anything wrong in one sense, I still feel that for a group that took the moral high ground over the RCL group for their behaviour this episode makes it look bad.

The only mitigating factor is that these ex-directors appear to have lost an awful lot of money and been subject to some rather strange behaviour from their ex-colleagues, but that still doesn't excuse the shenanigans in my view.

Even though the end result is actually what they seem to deserve.

{{{hugs}}}

It reminds me of the Open Pandora debacle, you never know what's true, and you never know if you'll ever get it.

On the bright side, you spent way less than I did on the Pandora!

Oh, I got off lightly I think.

On the plus side, the other project I backed came in a few weeks ago and I'm happy with that.

Nah, pretty sure not.

Seems one of the ex-Directors has legally obtained copies of the all the bank statements and this may have prompted the current round of updates.

Lots of shenanigans, not optimistic in the slightest...

Aye, saw that the yesterday in the FB group I monitor.

No one is in any way surprised that there appears to be no sign or confidence in delivering it, and actually Lee Fogarty's statement doesn't tie up with his statements or actions on social media or the internet.

There have been a couple of Indiegogo updates from RCL in the last day or so, bizarrely enough that just happen to coincide with that statement and a court case with one of the ex-directors that was scheduled for earlier today.

Did you read the comments on the page?

"Did you read the comments on the page?"

No I try to avoid comments on posts normally, and having read them just now they don't surprise me. I recognise some of the posters as being the same ones that have been waging a concerted hate campaign against Lee H. for a long while now.

I actually personally spoke to Lee H. on the phone last year, and I found him to be a sincere guy who was caught in the middle between the Vega+ people and some very angry backers, some of which are really not pleasant people.

His post is very consistent with the chat I had with him at the time, I can't discuss anything beyond that post because it was a private conversation, all I can say is the abuse he has been subjected to is considerably worse than what he alluded to there, certainly way more than most Speccy fans would take before just walking away.

From private conversations I've had, I would say that post should absolutely be taken on face value and that he is every bit a victim in this whole affair (and actually more a victim than many of the backers), and that the nasty comments are the very same people who have been out to make his life a misery for reasons known only to themselves.
