Finally installed and running. Had a brief foray distro-hopping but I should have known I'd end up back with Mint. Do you still have a play with Linux or are you mostly Windows now, Ad?
mostly windows, but funnily enough I reinstalled Antix on the old Dell d610 yesterday while I was watching footy and missus was on the good laptop, and then installed it on a VM at work today.
latest ubuntu is on the AMD desktop upstairs, as when the graphics card died recently, I just couldn't get mint to work properly with the old graphics card I put in, even though they were both nvidia, tried default, nouveau, and official, so I guess something was stuck, and not cleared out, I came to the conclusion it was quicker and easier to dl and install Ubuntu than try and fix :) I still don't like it, but don't use it much.
Then funnilly enough earlier today I was going to install Fedora, as I haven't used that in years, it was the first distro I got familiar with on the Dell D610, version 6 or 7 I think, but a review put me off, as I just want things to work these days, haven't got time to tinker, and rather embarrassingly I got confused by the installer! that PC has 2 hard drives in, and it just wasn't obvious how to select the right partition for Fedora, and how and where to mount the other partitions, but maybe that's just me where I'm so used to the Ubuntu/Mint one which makes it nice and easy.
Anyway, I have latest mint dowloaded and burned, so I may install it this weekend if I get chance, 64 bit Cinnamaon I think I got.

Still our main desktop OS here. Like you though, I'm less inclined to messing about these days. I'm happy to spend a weekend installing and setting up, but that has to be that. I need my Retroarch!
I did however give Arch spin-off Manjaro a go recently as I was between Mints. Very nice indeed. Bang up to date programs, very speedy, and clearly a massive amount of work must have been put in to maintain it all. To be honest I didn't have any issue with it at all, but I got the shakes about the long term viability of it as a rolling release distro. If you're much less conservative than me, I would thoroughly recommend it, especially the amazing KDE version. :)
I have just set up Mint there again dual booting it along side Windows 10, i have always been wanting to use this as my main OS but i always have just the one problem setting up Kodi.....each time in the past i have set it up i always have a problem with display drivers and Kodi usually gives me sound with very laggy video.
This instalment went a lot better and Mint 18 looks really polished and fast, also noticed that when i have Windows 10 on screen using my trusty old Revo RL80 my TV outputs a 1080p at 24hz, when using this version on Mint my TV is up-scaling the signal to 3840x2160 at 24hz and the picture just looks that bit better.
But as usual i have one problem that will stop me from using Mint and it is concerning Kodi again, but this time the video is playing fine with no problems at all, the sound is giving me a problem now....
I have the sound running to my Denon receiver and i am only getting stereo sound if i disable passthrough in Kodi, if i enable it i don't get any sound at all. I have had a mess about with settings in pulse audio and followed a guide to set the HDMI speakers to stereo but its not happening.
Pretty sure the last time i set up Mint my amp was playing and displaying DTS MA and TrueHD......i could be wrong about that and maybe it was DTS and DD, i can't remember now.
Any of you Gurus have any ideas as how to get the HD audio working?
Cheers.

sorry no,kodi forums will be your best bet for something specifi like that, or one of the other dedicated htpc forums, or the Linux mint forums, or community pages.

Someone on the Kodi forums pointed me to the fix, never expected it to work but hey presto!...everything working great now on Kodi and can finally get down to learning this new OS.

I updated Antix on the old dell d610 laptop to latest version, then somehow adding repos to get chrome I did something and broke it, X wouldn't start, and I had dependency issues, so I guess I added too many repos, or rather must have added some unstable and testing to the stable ones I had so somehting got its knickers in a twist :(
couldn't be arsed to spend too much time sorting it so downloads Manjaro on the recommendation earlier, installed the xfce version, some of the icons aren't workign in the menu, but that may be 'cos I keep my home dir so maybe there's some settings from Antix which are being used and Manjaro keeps things in a different place, but I haven't had chance to look. ANyway, as you say it's nice and fast to use, but updates seem to take a bloody long time, I'll have to check, maybe I'm pointing to somewhere miles away.
Mint XFCE 18 came out today so if I can't get along with Manjaro/get bored of it, I'll see if Mint will work, it might be a bit slow and crap on that machine as it's old, which was why I tried an older version of Antix on it in the first place.

Raspberry Pi OS on a PC or Mac anyone?

Apparently ideal for underpowered old machines.
