RE: [VIDEO] New Microsoft Tablet (Surface)
I`m in a complete quandary about the Surface (Pro or otherwise) and Windows 8. I can`t see myself being able to afford a Pro tablet in the first place. The RT (RunTime) tablet - Microsoft`s first foray into ARM technology - is more like what I`d been saving up for, but £479 (the £399 is for the tablet alone without the Touch cover) brings me out in a cold sweat as that`s the top end of what I`d be willing to spend on a laptop or otherwise running full Windows 8 Pro.
Back in March I picked up a couple of Toshiba laptops to replace my aging 32-bit machines. I`m wondering if it might be worth picking up Windows 8 to go on one of them (like I upgraded one of my old machines from Vista to 7). It would be the cheapest option to get into W8 although I had been expecting to go with RT rather than 8 Pro.
I`m disappointed that the RT version of Surface and the looky-likey tablets from Asus et al are iPad pricey rather than Nexus 7 come-and-buy-me. For me - potentially - the Surface and its wannabes are my dream tech (I have a rather dull goal of Pad word processing that so far the iPad and the Android tablets have disappointed on).
EDIT: As a new region-free DVD player is currently a more pressing call on my wallet, I think I`ll wait for the January sales before contemplating any form of W8.

And I think some of those things are why it will fail. Good old Microsoft, not making a new OS just bolting on a new UI onto an old one and hiding it.

Actually, the Forbes article makes me happier about the Surface RT. The price is still the big sticking point - £479 for the device with the cover. It`s interesting the basic coverless version is the big seller which makes you wonder if the Touch cover is worth the premium.
It may be I`m spoiled by the Transformer keyboard (but that`s only useful because it adds battery life which the Surface covers don`t.)

had a very quick go on one this morning. A colleague`s arrived this morning, he went for the RT version, with the keyboard cover, and was taking it round the office to show ppl, we`re pro geeks :)
1st impressions are good, screen is nice and clear, good viewing angle. The keyboard seemed nice to use as well, it`s odd having keys which don`t go up and down, but each is slightly raised, so it has some feel to it.
He has an iPad3 as well, his first impression was screen touch aspect seems as good as that, so will be interesting to speak to him after weekend to hear what he has to say about it.

I guess today`s dilbert may have been aimed at Microsoft a tad... :)

This is somewhat naughty of them:

So you`re not getting anywhere near the quoted space (regardless of decimal vs binary values).
RE: [VIDEO] New Microsoft Tablet (Surface)
That`s awful, but a 16Gb Android tablet only has about 11Gb of internal storage free. I`m not sure how an iPad fares.
EDIT: 28Gb free on an empty 32Gb iPad 1.
