Steve Hackett - Seconds Out tour..
Saw Steve Hackett at Liverpool Philharmonic on Saturday (at last, twice postponed...).
Just stunning.
Joined this time by Jonas Reingold (Flower Kings) and Craig Blundell (ex Frost* and Steven Wilson tour drummer last few years) who in particular was incredible and nailed the classic Phil Collins and Chester Thomson drum sound.

The show was split into two 'sets' although the first probably the shortest ever, around 40mins.  Which was why the second was just on two hours and was the whole of Seconds Out (full versions of all songs).
Highlights probably Musical Box, Supper's Ready (obviously) and Cinema Show but the whole thing amazing...

My Seconds Out version...

Saw Elbow last night (great weekend!) at the Olympia - a real, old 100+ year old theatre.
Probably the best I've seen them, and loud...
Guy Garvey had the audience eating out of his hand and, as the man, who for me, has penned some of the most heart wrenching and beautiful lyrics, a bit of dust in the eye a few times too for me.
A particular favourite is Kindling with:
The silence and the waiting and the rush of all aboard
Fifty souls to a carriage I'm trying hard to be ignored
Then my telephone shakes into life and I see your name
And the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train..
We were fairly near the front and I got my phone out and videoed this bit - I think I giggled like a little kid when Guy noticed and looked right at the phone as I recorded the last line.
The lyric is pretty self-explanatory I think but nails a certain time, place, trip and feeling for me.
This gig too was the third time of trying - ironically touring the Giants of All Sizes album (released late 2019) just as they've announced a new album to be released in a couple of months.

End of the month for me. Can't wait. Seen all him on all of his last few tours and Seconds Out is a favourite album of mine anyway.

You're in for a treat,  it's superb. I've seen the last 7 or 8 tours too, this could be the best maybe, even more so than the Selling England one too. All still on top of their game, maybe even better.  I know you'll be well aware if how good Craig is too. Seeing Genesis next month, quite fearful about that to be honest after seeing how poorly Phil looks. Saw a program on Sky Arts last night showing them preparing and rehearsing for this tour that  that didn't help.. Funny hearing Mike talk about how they don't have a 'classic' album like Floyd etc..  Then it showed them rehearsing 'That's All...

Reminded me of this....

I saw Tony Hadley a few years ago, the company my missus used to work for hired a local venue, he was so good, didn't just do his songs, but other 80s classics, very charasmatic and amusing, he was brilliant.

I'm seeing Idles on Thursday, looking forward to it, just had email asking ppl wear masks, and proof of covid jabs/negative tests required on entry.

wow, Idles were awesome, when half through the 2nd song, one of the guitarists starts crowd surfing, you know it's gonna be good :)

The played a few old songs mixed in with new stuff and the crowd was just loving it the whole time, and the band seemed genuine when they stopped between songs to thank us for support etc over last year or so. This gig was an added extra one, you only got a ticket for by buying the new album at a local independent record store.

the other guitarist did a bit of crowd surfing and playing, standing on the crowd and sung some Celine Dion and other love songs for a bit, while the other guitarist surfed the entire length of the venue, got up on the balcony, and after a tiny bit of persuasion from the singer agreed to fall backwards onto us, rather than just stage dive off the balcony :) (he passed his guitar down first)

And the drummer is f-ing amazing, seeing him live, I don't know how he kept up the pace for 90 mins, they don't do slow songs.

Just back from the first night of the Isle of Wight Festival, saw Sophie Ellis-Bexter, amazing voice and a feel good set. I had not forgotten how loud concerts were, but I had forgotten how loud a crowd can be.
