The Laylines......Weston-Super-Mare on the 9th of June, brilliant

We have a relative in the band, very proud of (other dates still available, we are going again to Bristol in October)

The Cure at Bestival. Very good live, though they do this multiple encore thing which I don't get.

My first time at Bestival, some things I loved, like the art installations, people really get into the theme (this year it was space so lots of silver, aliens, astronauts, etc), the Bollywood area, the DJ arena, Kinetica Block, and generally more ethnic diversity than the IoW Festival...

...but quite a bit that seemed a shame, the litter, the insanely densely packed tents, the general impression of understaffing marshal/steward wise, the line ups, the awful website where they still don't have the line up (you have to get that from Twitter/Facebook), the mobile phone app (notifications were useless and irritating, line ups didn't even appear in the app until Thursday!!), the layout of everything.

I could forgive those if it wasn't the same price as other festivals, but it isn't.

last night I saw Captain Trips, Wonk Unit, and Masked Intruder, was a great gig 'cos it was fun, most bands seem to take themselves v seriously, but these guys were all good and seemed to be enjoying themselves :)

Captain Trips were a pretty good punk band.

Wonk Unit seem to have a massive cult following, as the crowd was happy to hear old songs. Punk, with elements of ska, songs about being able to open the doors on old trains, songs stealing lyrics from ex girlfriend's diaries!

Masked Intruder were awesome,pop-punk at its best, (nb no soppy wussy stuff ;) ) with Officer Bradford dancing like a maniac, crowd surfing, getting in with the crowd, and later stripping!

I saw Melt Banana last night who were f-ing awesome, a Japanese "noise" band, I can see why John Peel was such a massive fan, they're a 2 piece now live, singer with laptop and electronic gadgetry, and guitarist with numerous effects pedals, and drum machine. Amazing how 2 people can make so much  noise :) Hard to describe them, but imagine if Prodigy, Napalm Death, f*** Buttons and Sex Pistols did a collaboration :)

Support came from The Divorcee https://twitter.com/TheDivorceeBand who were very good, very heavy, intense grindcore/hardcore/mathcore. Very solid, intricate guitar work, the drummer is some kind of machine the way he keeps the pace up :)

I took a few videos and photos, but wanted to enjoy the show rather than watch through my mobile :)

Wife and I was at Tower Brewery, Burton-on-Trent on the 8th to see our favorite band (rather biased as a relative is in it).

A great night, stayed in a B&B, as we got plastered, music and Tower bitter, fantastic!

Was in London to see Phil Collins at the Royal Albert Hall but he hit his head and cancelled the gig, still did mean I could get the midnight ferry instead of the 2:45am (had tickets for IOW festival).

Friday saw Alison Moyet (amazing voice) in the Big Top, then Run DMC (great when they were playing but at least half the stage time was talking, and you'd have to be their worlds greatest fan to remotely enjoy those bits), and finally David Guetta.

Guetta's light show was spectacular, one of the best I've ever seen. He's French I think, but sounds Swedish when he talks. Anyway, a great set to dance to.

Last night saw The Kooks, who were decent enough but I only really know two of their songs which they closed with. Then the completely forgettable Catfish and the Bottlemen, who often seemed like kids playing with guitar effects in their bedroom.

Headline act was Arcade Fire, who were just brilliant. If you ever get a chance to see them, I would definitely go see them. So much energy and talent and a wall of sound.

Went to see Kraftwerk at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday night, really brilliant! The 3D specs were a kind of fun addition which helped the atmosphere, very appreciative crowd, and they were on for about 2hrs20.

What wonderful sounds they made...

Me and the Mrs went to see Coldplay in Cardiff for our anniversary on 11th July. Wow what a spectacle, the combo of the lighting, stage and those cool Xylobands made for a hugely enjoyable concert.

I'm not as into Coldplay as Caroline is but I thoroughly enjoyed it, as a band they've clearly nailed it as they sounded amazing for the whole show - and Chris Martin didn't stop jumping around, god knows how many Weetabix he's on for breakfast 😁

Oh I'm glad they are still doing those, terrible for the planet but really an amazing experience. It's like being in a galaxy of stars isn't it?
