Saw Genesis, my favourite band, on Monday.
Enjoyed the show but certainly something missing.
There were no 'surprises' really, I knew what to expect from Phil and him sitting down.
The stage show and lighting were both superb - but the energy Phil used to inject into the shows was sadly lacking.
Sadly, the setlist is so predictable now and has hardly changed since the last tour.
Any old favourites generally have to make do with being part of a medley, just an opening verse or, in the case of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, a badly misjudged and slow, energyless version.  Would it really kill them to play the full version of The Cinema Show?
I think I have to accept I'm probably in the minority now of people go to a Genesis gig as the crowd just lapped up the likes of That's All and I Can't Dance.
Thankfully we still have the incredible Steve Hackett keeping the flame going.
Credit to Nic Collins on drums who was great in fairness.

I am very grateful I got to see him at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago whilst he still had energy, he looks a lot older now. :/

And 'COVID with a band member' has cancelled tonight's Glasgow and the 3 London O2 gigs.
I wouldn't judge my post as a general review of the gig, they have been well reviewed by the media.

Yes, and even then he wasn't exactly his old self.

As a longstanding Genesis fan (all eras) I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority in a typical Genesis audience now.

Fontaines DC, was ok, but to be fair the Guildhall has a reputation for being a s*** venue, but when they were meant to play here, hadn't been to a gig in ages, and really liked the song A Heroe's Death. Sadly, they opened with that song, then it was ok, then a few dirgy slow slongs which got a bit boring, and then another fast one, then as is often the way, a song from the old album which got the crowd going mental, "encore" another song from old album again the crowd went mental.

things is we've has time to get to know the new album, but it's just not as good as the old one, or at least doesn't lend itself to live so well :(

Probably didn't help that I still had Idles fresh in my mind from the other week :)

Saw Genesis too at Leeds. I'd seen them several times before including the 82 reunion. I didn't really want to see this tour as being a massive fan of Phil as a drummer I didn't want to see him like that. But at the last minute I was offered a ticket near the front so had to go. Have to say I like all eras of their music and loved every second of the show. During the reunion show Phil played drums on every track bar Turn It On Again. On Monday night I'd swear Nic plays more in Phil's style than Chester ever did. During some of the instrumental sections I completely forgot it wasn't Phil playing. Sad to see the later dates have been postponed as I know a couple of friends that were supposed to be going to see them. Then saw Steve Hackett on Thursday doing the Seconds Out album in whole. That was excellent too.

saw JOHN last night, who were excellent, they're a 2 piece, who somehow sound like a full band, kind of a heavy Royal Blood, well worth checking out, no idea, how the drummer can sing and drum like he does simultaneously.

the new album is popular on 6Music

Hot new band from IoW Wet Leg have announced a tour to support independent venues in new year, hopefully I can get tix to that when they go sale as their 2 songs are excellent :) apparently went down a storm at IoW festival playing the local band stage, rumours they'll be on a proper stage next year already

Pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs who were awesome, unfortunately I forgot my ear plugs so my ears are going to be ringing for days, they were really good, if you like your music on the heavy side \m/ Kind of Sabbath, Melvins, Cathedral, psychadelic doom rock, with a front man who prances about in his words "like a pound shop Freddie Mercury" :)
