Just started listening to The Hassles, this was a band Billy Joel was in during the sixties before he went solo

Just belatedly picked up Jellybean's Just Visiting This Planet expanded cd, mainly for this gem:

Covet.
Loving this band and their last album Technicolor. Yvette Young has such a different guitar style with loads of odd tunings, tapping and polyphony. Loads of videos of her stuff on YouTube.
Even ended up buying one of her signature Ibanez Slime Green Sparkle guitars.

I need to listen to it a few more times I think, The Future Bites is quite different to his previous albums. Much more electronic which is why it's both very different and also on your radar?
I actually thought Personal Shopper was OK but not so the Elton voice overs of the luxury goods.
Some it was quite similar to the sentiments expressed on OMD's Punishment of Luxury I felt.

Yep, exactly why it was on my radar.

The choice of Elton John was deliberate by Wilson as he epitomises the concept of a shopaholic according to Wilson...and Elton agreed, changing the list of things he spoke to reflect his personal preferences...

I know why it was Elton and how deliberate it was. I just don't actually like that part of the song and skip past it now. A few in there (Super deluxe boxsets etc.) Steven is quite guilty of himself by his own admission.

Fair enough, I don't mind it so much.

Agree completely.  I'm a tad annoyed I can't buy a streamed version of his deluxe edition of the album.  Not wanting to spend £100 on a physical version, especially as unlikely to bother with the blu-ray...

If you're looking for any more of his more 'accessible' things, I could recommend these:...
From Porcupine Tree:
A heavier, rockier track about, erm, a Serial Killer..
Blackest Eyes..

A couple of beautiful, more melancholic tracks, both of which I adore.
Sentimental..

Lazarus..

Permanating, a track from his last solo album that quite split the fanbase... Basically he wanted to write a pop song.  The version from his last live 'DVD' pretty much repeats this video (that I hadn't actually seen until just now )

Pariah, a track that I know has been linked to here in the past (from Andy C).. Incredible guest vocal - and the end...

There was an article a few years back that he was something like the most successful musician you've never heard of and it's probably not far off.  He's even bigger now, in huge demand especially to remaster or produce - yet still hardly anyone's heard of him..

I've been aware of him for a while, due to Richard Barbieri's involvement in PT, but I've never really gotten into PT from the short snippets I've heard.  Would have been tempted if there was a compilation of their material.

Again, listened to snippets of the last solo album but didn't really get it so didn't get it.

I have the recent Vienna boxset that he was involved with though and his mixes really are superb...

I'll have a listen to the ones you put up though, cheers.
