4K UHD blu-ray disc player

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 28th May 2019, 11:13

I recently got a new TV & I'm thinking about buying a 4k UHD disc player. They seem to start around the £100 mark. As the TV has all the apps I want to use it doesn't need to do anything other than play discs. I'm more interested in the up scaling the Blu-ray discs I already own but I would probably buy new releases in UHD format.
Has anyone here upgraded to UHD? Is it worth it?
The machine I've been looking at is this LG player...

Thanks all 👍

You realise that now you’ve announced your intention, you’ll be obligated to review 4K discs for the site :p

They are all smart these days. Don't buy the LG. It is flimsy in comparison to others. I have the Sony UBP-X800 which is their priciest (and first 4k player, but it is solidly built and runs silently. I'd strongly recommend you go with Sony. And yes, it's worth moving up to UHD discs. I have a substantial collection now.

Just beware of all the old movies currently getting rereleased I n the 4k format.

Same old problem. The digital "restoration" often makes them look worse than previous DVD/BD releases.

Still alive and kicking. You can't get rid of me that easily!
