New $5 Pi coming out:
http://hackaday.com/2015/11/25/the-5-raspberry-pi-zero/

No network or composite ports, and an unpopulated pin header, so not going to appeal to people using it for media players, but definitely will appeal to anyone who wants to use it for electronics hacking projects!

...and it now beats Amstrad into second place.

The Raspberry Pi has become the most popular British computer yet made.

Before I buy one I need to take the advice that used to be given to people buying a PC.
First. decide what do you want to do with it.

Not just the reason the world and it's dog bought the ZX81
Because it's cool.

Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

  • Add an external HDD for an always on low power NAS server that can also run bittorrent, or torrent sync
  • Build a mini arcade emulator cabinet
  • Cheap second (or third) computer
  • Make one of those magic mirror computer screens
  • Play around with electronics (or make an LED flash and then get bored)
  • HTPC that you can duct tape to the back of your TV
  • Get a broken old computer, wire up the keyboard to it and get a more authentic emulated experience

I start to run out after that.

Maybe the media centre in this article but that requires a new telly first.

$5 more buys you something more powerful than a Pi 3:

Interesting option, if you don't mind the closed source drivers.

Got mine today and holy phuq is it fast (Well compared to the other/earlier models) . BBC I player works on it at long last after several months so I am a happy bunny . Now to get my Pi project kit out and get my grand-daughter to help me do more than merely watch movies/ listen to audio with it
