Hitachi TV, Scan SC2000 and NTSC discs

Can anyone give me the definitive answer on whether a Hitachi CT28W401 widescreen telly displays NTSC? Various web sources give various answers.

If I set my Scan to NTSC and play and R1 it all displays fine, and if I set It to Multi it all displays fine. (and PAL of course!)

Is it the Scan switching back to PAL cos the TV says "no" to NTSC or is it the TV saying "yes" to NTSC?

If the TV says yes then am I right in assuming the quality will be higher than having the Scan convert the DVD to PAL? I can`t really tell any difference.

Don`t have much knowledge of NTSC, but I`d think if you set your Scan to output NTSC and you get a picture, then the TV is NTSC capable.

If this works I`d leave it set at Multi so that the Scan will send an NTSC signal (with no conversion) to the TV when using a R1 disc and it will send a PAL signal when using a R2 disc.

I just tested out a couple of R1 and R2 DVD`s using PAL, NTSC and MULTI modes in both composite and RGB. Here`s what I`ve found:

When playing the Movie there isn`t much difference between PAL, NTSC and MULTI when using RGB. The difference appears when playing full-screen clips, like music videos or TV clips on R1 - these are best viewed in NTSC or MULTI mode if your TV supports NTSC.

When using COMPOSITE though, it`s a different story. The picture looks fine watching R1 discs using PAL, but when you switch to NTSC the picture becomes very red.

Also, for some reason in MULTI mode the Scan prefers the NTSC mode to PAL when displaying the SETUP menu, and on screen displays.
