Lip sync problem of VCD in Scan SC 2000 “clone”

Hi:

I have read many posts talking about Region 1 DVDs that have lip sync problems with Scan DVD players. My question is related to lip sync problems in Video-CDs (MPEG-1).

I have a DVD “DiViDo” (a Scan SC-2000 “clone”, also Scan firmwares are working with this player), and I have tried lots of Video-CDs very succesfully (originals, copies, music videos in VCD format and so). But when I have tried to convert some AVI files (in DivX format) to VCD so I can watch them in my DVD player, here comes the lip sync problem. The process is the following:

I convert the AVI file to MPEG-1 format (in VCD standard or non standard, it doesn’t matter) using TMPG Encoder 1.2b, I burn the MPG file in VCD format with Nero in a CD-RW and it plays very fine in my computer, in a Pioneer 535 DVD standalone player, but not in my Scan SC 2000 “clone”; the video starts OK, but in a few minutes the video seems to “fast forward” by itself for a moment, then goes in “low motion” for another moment, and as a result the audio and video looses sync. Sometimes it gets in sync again by itself, but it looses again sync in some minutes. This behavior is also present when I manually fast forward or rewind the VCD, it looses sync very quickly.

I have found this behavior in almost all the movies I have converted by myself, but it’s very curious that some of them work perfectly (following the same conversion process!!). Also, all the music videos and VCD movies I have downloaded from Internet seems to work perfectly.

I have tried almost everything in the encoding process: coding the video and the audio separatedly, changing the internal structure of the GOPs (frames) in the MPEG file, and no result.

Somebody has the same problem as me? Can it be fixed with a firmware update? I have tried with Scan firmware 2.08 and I get the same problem.

Any suggestion would be good, many thanks in advance.

Alberto.
