In a statement on Twitter, her fashion house said she died "peacefully and surrounded" by her family in Clapham, South London.

Westwood made her name with her controversial punk and new wave styles in the 1970s and went on to dress some of the biggest names in fashion.think I'll stop reading BBC now, was having a good evening having watched Jay and Silent Bob Strikes back, BBC.com has put a real downer on the evening!

I'm no great fashion fan, my only nod to fashion is trying to coordinate the
T shirt with the Jeans or trackie bottoms, but she did brighten the nation in more ways than one.
