Does anyone wash their own windows?

RJS (undefined) posted this on Tuesday, 23rd August 2022, 17:28

I see window cleaners now with a broom on a stick that connects to a hose and I think... I wouldn't need many times to clean my own to cover the cost of buying a broom on a stick.

Does anyone use one? Anything you would recommend?

I don't want a moon on a stick, just a broom.

Sacked off our window cleaners a few months ago.
Do the downstairs myself but haven't done the upstairs since.
We were paying nine quid for them to wave one of those over just the front as far as I could tell with just plain water.

Probably will buy one of those doofers but I need a ladder so might revert to old style.

I think window cleaners don't use ladders anymore because of strict new health and safety rules hence they use the extended hose cleaners instead these days.

We've got a hosepipe ban here so I don't know what window cleaners are doing now (unless it doesn't apply to them).

Mine still has a ladder, I'm just toying with the idea of doing them myself. How hard can it be?

Not particularly.
Just a case of making yourself do it.
Depends how many urgent cups of tea/coffee get in the way.

only one way of finding out, just make sure you have an old matress or something similar on the floor ;)

I suppose it's line cleaning a car, some people use car washes, some clean it themselves, some like me clean it when it would be too embarrassing to take it to the car wash!

I don't think it's about difficulty (apart from if you need a ladder) but more more about being arsed to do it yourself, or having the time :)

there's probably some tutorial videos out there :)

We don't have a window cleaner - I do them myself occasionally - probably less than I should.
Now you mention it, upstairs could do with a clean.  I did buy one of those extendable pole things once but it was crap, leaked and you couldn't really apply any pressure onto the glass as it just bent.
Most round here have a van with a tub of water in and a big long hose.
I believe businesses that depend on water (inc car washes) are exempt from such bans anyway.

Ste

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Didn't Alfie just utter those exact words?

I lived in a maintained block of flats so they had a contract with someone - but now i'm in a house again I need to think about the same thing with how to reach the top windows.

My dad used to sit on the ledge with legs inside and lean out with cloths etc to clean - but he's a tight b**strd.

Feels like the start of a Jordan Peele horror film. I may wind up being killed and replaced by a deranged doppelganger from hell, which would be incredibly inconvenient.
