the pieces are flush on the board, its not cheap definitely but iv stopped (for the moment) buying sovereigns after I got the 2022 one which I would recommend anyone to buy as its if history of previous special year and special designs is anything to go by will almost certainly get a good return down the line, and the chess set is an investment as well, worst case scenario it will hold its value and almost certainly rise in value its just the amount with silver you are never sure about whereas gold you can make a more informed guesstimate :) and currently at £200-£300 per month I can manage without it hurting too much knowing I'm basically putting it in the bank and get some joy with it in the mean time

snaps if you want to learn with me that would be good

I'd give it a crack if there's an online site you know of, I'd have to Google it.

May have to rain check it for a month though, going on hols soon and the only thing I'll be checking is the speed my bank balance is dropping at.

St Louis Chess Club has a lot of beginner lectures, GM Ben Finegold is a legendary character who is on some of them:

For sites to play on, I would use lichess.org as it has free engine analysis, it will analyse your games and show you where you went wrong.

Chess puzzles are good for improving too.

Thanks for those.
I'll definitely check them out.

Actually the first thing that came up on a Google looks easy to navigate and starts as basic as you want, Chess.com

They bought my Dad in law, who's been gone since 2009, a dedicated chess machine which he used to beat on it's highest level and get annoyed with it because he said it cheated. No reason to doubt him but I don't think I'd have understood the explanation.

Chess.com is good, but some of the features Lichess gives you for free require a subscription on Chess.com. Like game analysis, you get one free a day and then it's money time.

I did sub to Chess.com for a few years, but now I just prefer Lichess.

More of Ben F. which probably has his catchphrases of, "Knife F5", "Terrible" and "You with the wrong answer":

Eric Rosen is wonderful, his catchphrases are, "There's a funny line..." and "Oh no my queen!":

And at some point you will discover the Botez gambit...
