WiFi down

Short saga.
WiFi, which is BT FTTP. went down 3 or 4 days ago at 1.00 am.
Checked an online status checker and got an 'external fault being worked on' should be back on by 6.00am, which it was so fair dos.

Following day 1.30 am it went down again, no faults listed on the online status thingy so tried a router reset. Nothing happening so left it till the morning.

Rang BT, very nice chatty Irish bloke obviously working from home, waiting for his system to kick in. Eventually he tells me it's showing an external fault, probably just not been flagged up yet but should be up by midday the following day and he was sending me a mini hub in case it wasn't and 'keep it anyway against future problems'

24 hours later I look on the service checker 'No problems in your area'
Google is your friend and I find I can text HELP to BT and they'd get back to me in 10 mins. Sure enough 10 mins ish and 'Our engineer Trevor will be with you ASAP'
Trevor turns up, no lights on the open reach box, box knackered.
Box replaced so sorted.

The point of all this is if I hadn't found that text number, which doesn't seem to appear as an option on the BT app, I'd still be sitting here waiting for an non existent external fault to be cleared.

Trevor tells me the phone guy should have been able to determine this just from what I'd told him so either he's 'Tim nice but dim' or BT's system was telling him there was a non existent fault.

...and yes I feel dumb about the no lights so dead box thing but as it had gone down before I automatically assumed it was external again, I did check if it was fused and pressed it's reset button.

Note: It was a Huawei box which they no longer use, they're using Nokia now but they still have to get it to talk to Huawei at the other end, so a longish software/firmware update first.

2nd note: How much of our ****ing life now revolves around broadband and 4G.
Wife and daughter both working from home. Daughter was fine tethering to her iPhone. Mrs 'Oh my iPhone wont let me do that' and no it bloody wont and still wont but she new this for the last six months since updating to an iPhone 11.
She was using my Samsung. 'Well can't you just got to work and leave your phone'
No I frigging can't I need it to take contactless fares.

Thank you for the therapy of me typing this all out.
If you have adult'ish kids is it also always your fault if the broadband goes down just because it's your account?

....and breath.

i just go to default setting, unplug, and then switch back on!

Everything else I leave to the wife... as I just lose my rag with it!
