The next one is already on the drawing board…

The hard bit is done!

The IKEA bit of the mission is complete. Now all that’s left is one orbital insertion burn, a 6 month period of commissioning and testing, and a lifetime of avoiding micrometeorites.

I hope they get the time to look at the deep field patch of sky that Hubble so memorably photographed.

Today's the day...

At the time of writing, the James Webb telescope is 1200 miles away from its new home. It's 99.9% of the way there. All that's left is an insertion burn at around 7pm GMT, and a bit of reverse parking into its new orbit where it can start work.

If there's a newer thread for this I apologise

The fact that does my nut in is the area of sky the deep field image is from.

This is the best description of it that I can find, I have seen others but can't find them right now.
Consider that what you are seeing in the image is galaxies not stars and then multiply that up for the rest of the sky.

What I was trying to find is one of those if you held xxxx out at arms length it would obscure the entire image. I'm guessing grain of sand or even smaller.
