The @jesse_norman letter is pretty damning of BJ - a long time supporter.

It will be interesting to see by how much he scrapes through winning this, before then losing two bi-elections in two weeks time.

If he's grateful for anything it's probably that the vote will be before those bi-elections.
I agree that he'll probably win the vote of no confidence, how narrowly will be interesting.
I expect fairly soon afterwards though that his party will scrap the twelve month stipulation on another vote.

That may not be a leadership challenge from Norman but you always have to accept the '...but of course if my party were to insist...' possibility.

How funny/tragic will it be if it's 52% to 48% either way.

It's funny how many MPs are putting in letters/resigning because they are suddenly noticing the PM's lack of integrity. It didn't seem to be a problem when he was considered to be electable.

Backbones appearing only when things aren't going their way.

Somewhat similar to the description of Johnson as seeing which way the crowd was heading then running to the front and shouting 'Follow me'.

The goal is to remain in power, secondary to that is running the country. The Tories are almost completely directionless - pushed into reacting to every crisis by public outcry, confecting culture wars and claiming that every new disaster is actually a massive success thanks to their actions.

And they are led by this prick:

Will Walden, who was Johnson's spokesman when he was Mayor of London, tells the BBC's World at One that the PM is unlikely to resign and it would take "several people with revolvers in the room" to persuade him to go.

"Boris will be taken kicking and screaming out of the front door of No 10. There is no way that the thing that he has wanted all his life he is going to give up easily on," Walden says.

"Boris Johnson does not do reverse gear. He only does forward gear, and his mantra is plough on. Whatever the problem, plough on. Whatever the result, he will say it's done and dusted, on we go."

You can't have a world leader who ignores his failings. You could replace 'Boris Johnson' with 'Donald Trump' and the raison d'être is the same

211 for, 148 against. Boris survives to waffle another day as expected.

But when 148 of your party want you out and you have an 80 seat majority in the commons...

Anyone else would dead meat. He'll just waffle his way past it again, and again... till the next election.

Here comes the spin, but there seems to be very few backing him up

Not a clue...
