I remember seeing this sometime ago.
It would be nice if the Beeb put it out again in memory.

I'm unfamiliar with him as well, but that sounds really interesting.

RIP but never liked a skeptic like him.

Ok, he was good at exposing the fraudulent side of things, but had total blinkers on as a skeptic. And to use jokes and laughter to debunk subjects was the lowest of the low. His intent was to put off joe public from looking at all the possibilities on a controversial subject, to see if they were true or not.

A good example of skepticism the other night on telly, was a UFO documentary, but the commentator just made a fool of it all, actually paid to make a fool of the UFO subject. It was about the Falkirk triangle mass sightings, and he started off with  "Scotland the land of nessie and UFO's", which made it a mockumentary, instead of a documentary, and he used a background commentary downplaying comments by eye witnesses.

For those who have seen UFO's up close and personal, and so do believe, this TV show was disgraceful being so skeptical, and so one sided, against the possibilities that alien life exists, and visiting Falkirk :D

It's quite likely that alien life, even intelligent alien life, exists somewhere. Maybe it's even fairly commonplace considering the vastness of the universe. Astronomers have been doing serious work for decades trying to find it, so there's no hiding of info. But your default position should always be to be sceptical. It's highly doubtful any aliens have visited us given how incredibly far away via planets are likely to be from us. ''Let's keep our minds open... But don't keep your minds so open that your brains fall out.'' - Walter Kotschnig.

Going by the 'ancient alien' TV series, books and videos, they may not all be coming from light years away, but instead arrived a long time ago in the past, and are already here set up on Mars bases, Moon bases and under the mountains and oceans of Earth, doing God knows what, other than short distance flights.

When you look at the Moon and Mars, there are artifacts there that NASA do not want us to know about. There is definitely a hidden past history of our solar system, may have been a cataclysmic event that happened with Mars, that is kept from joe public, due to fears that we would go nuts knowing there is intelligent life other than us out there, plus it would affect those religious types, finding out mankind is not alone.

Oh I've missed your bonkers nonsense Bandi

As for James, I'm very familiar with him & his work, and aside from having blinkers on, his eyes were more open than most. He looked for facts, not fantasy, and debunked those that were exploiting the ignorance of other.

Many moons ago he set a challenge to anyone out there claiming to have psychic abilities or concrete evidence of the paranormal, to come forward and prove it to him. And if they did he would give them a million dollars. That was in 1964 and up until its termination in 2015, despite thousands applying, no-one claimed the prize.

Aww Bandi, never change! I mean please change but also never change?

For people who are just discovering Randi, he is possibly most famous for his $1m challenge to anyone who could demonstrate they had supernatural powers under scientific conditions.

It ran from 1964 to 2015, and nobody ever managed to claim it.

If you want to watch someone taking the challenge, it's an intriguing video:
