I get that frustration and understand it, but rioting only damages their own neighbourhoods - and they will have to live within that wreckage once it's over.

Wreck a Target coz they're a big company and can absorb the cost?  Fine, but who works there?

I'm not saying they should riot, or condoning it, or that it will even do any good. In fact with the current administration I doubt it will make any difference at all.

Having said that, this wouldn't be a worldwide story on the day, let alone days after, it's likely (based on past examples) that the officer would not even have been charged, without the reaction to this man's death.

And having said that, with the current administration... :/

He's a black musician, actor and activist who in the link posted, at a press conference says that yes he's angry, but destroying their own neighbourhood isn't the way to make positive change

there's been some "nice" videos as well, where you see police acting like normal human beings to protesters, there was one i saw earlier on twitter, i'll try and find it where the policeman is explaining things to the protesters, and you can see the protesters appreciate the conversation the policeman is having with them and his actions.

I also saw a video of various policemen of  different ethnicity talking about the murder.

When these stories surface, I like to remind myself of this one, a few years ago where a cop was called to a disturbance, kids playing basketball in the street. I think it's safe to say, him and his police force went above and beyond to create good relations between 5-0 and general public :)

Yeah I've seen those too. The nice doesn't make up for the bad unfortunately.

There's also footage of police deliberately targeting press with rubber bullets when they were nowhere near the protests.

The police there just seem to be incredibly antagonistic (to put it mildly)

Something that occured to me this afternoon, if social media had existed when Rodney King was beaten up by Police, I wonder if anything would be different today?

It seems so long ago (1991) but I remember it being shocking, probably because at that age I had heard Public Enemy, NWA etc, and in films it all seemed like an unreal fantasy story, rather than reflection on society.

maybe when the military turn up, they'll shoot out at the police, who are trying to arrest the shop owners, who are trying to protect their business from the looters?

There has been some coverage on Newsround, it's quite difficult to explain to the girls what's happening, answer their questions, and then remind them, if for some reason they are out and separated from mummy and daddy, they should look for a policeman for help.
