It doesn't bother me either way, to be honest.

I've seen people banging on about how surgeons and medical staff wear them for hours at a time, but medical grade PPE is single use only and medical guidelines I've seen suggest that a surgeon should change masks every two hours during long surgical procedures.

It's not like I'm anti-mask, happy enough to wear one but just not sure how effective they really are...

I understood that, not accusing you of being anti-mask.

Surgical masks are not worn for the same reason as PPE, it's not PPE. If the inside of a body has dangerous fumes, it might be too late to do an operation. ;)

Myself, I have a fabric mask that takes a HEPA insert. For the insert my recommendation is Henry hoover bags (waits for people to get upset over me mentioning the word hoover), they are super reasonably priced.
