Just heard about this. No opinion about him as a sportsman but I'm more than aware of his personality and his passion for the sport.

I don't particularly follow basketball, but that's kind of the equivalent of David Beckham dying here. More than just atop sportsman, an iconic figure.

Never had so many alerts on my phone, just heard his 13 year old daughter also died, truly terrible news :(

When I was at college/Uni played basketball recreationally with friends, I was at Uni when this "kid" (he's 3 years younger than me) wasn't going to uni, but was going to be the next Michael Jordan, had been on Arsenio Hall etc, I remember Arsenio Hall joking at the age of 18, Bryant was earning more money than most ppl would see in their life time.

My phones been buzzing quite a bit tonight from the mates I used to play basketball with,  we sporadically keep in contact, only see each other once or twice a year (not to play ball anymore), but wierd and sad how this sad news has brought us in touch again.
