A little help gents from someone who has a Sky + HD box connected to BT broadband.

Basically how.
I seem to be getting suggestions involving a sky router but surely I don't need a router to connect to a router.

May be a dumb question, but have you connected this Sky box to broadband before? I've got an old Sky + HD box and connect direct to the router with a long ethernet cable. Even if your box has a router, it probably does have to connect to your 'main' router like a wireless printer would.

We were given a Sky+ router free a couple of years ago. It's just a little doo-hickey called a Sky Mini SD501 that plugs in the back and connects to your wifi. Not sure if they're still giving them away but you can pick up used ones for upwards of a tenner on the usual sites

Correct, you should be able to plug your sky box into a router and it should auto-detect and just work. As long as it's an ethernet port+plug.

Thanks for your help gents I'm now up and running.
Confusion due to the Sky switch box looking remarkably like the previous model of router, hence my head scratching
Now I realise it's the smaller doo dah it was a simple check to find out the plug on the sky box end had come loose.
I'd seen my daughter entering the code a week or two back so assumed it was up and running.
