Johnson wants to bring in compulsory photo id for voting, despite there being any significant evidence of electoral fraud that it would prevent.

I wonder if this might backfire, obviously it is biased against the poor, but isn't it also biased against old people who have no photo id because their old driving licenses don't carry photos?

Exactly, what's the point of paying constantly to keep the photocard updated when a paper licence works exactly the same, and you only need to get it the once until you retire?

Apparently they're had it in NI for years with high voter turnout...

https://www.eoni.org.uk/Electoral-Identity-Card/Electoral-Identity-Card-FAQs

Turnout figures per country:

NI: 61.8%
England: 67.4%
Wales 66.6%
Scotland 68.1%

So doesn't seem to have hurt the Northern Irish too much...

And yet a noticably lower percentage per capita than the other member countries. So while deemed a necessity for voter participation, it doesn't necessarily compel those with identity cards to actually vote. It could actually be argued, given the numbers you've shown, that forced voter registration actually dissuades the populace to vote...

Say what you like about Tony Blair, he sure knew how to start an illegal war on baseless grounds that cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and never apologise about it.
