Broadband providers

Seriously looking at ditching Sky after a very long time.

Sky is costing me £18.99 line rental and £11.01 broadband which is unlimited and seems to be about 23Mb.
Best offer on Money saving expert is Talk Talk £19.95 per month, including line rental, for an 18 month contract which is fibre, unlimited and they say averages 36MB.

Any comments on who everyone else uses and any to avoid.

Also on Sky. Pay around £65 per month for basic telly, broadband, phone. Was £75 until I realised I was also paying £10 a month extra for "free" calls (barely used) and voicemail.

I actually had a quick look into going totally 4g, ditching Sky and line rental and transferring long held home phone number to a sipgate (internet) phone (not a certainty this is always possible). Our broadband is so bad anyway it may be a viable choice for us. You do get a proper 4g router which is better than your average phone, apparently.

I don't think you'd beat that TalkTalk offer even without cost of line rental.

Talktalk..unlimited broadband and same with phone 24/7 with line rental is £27.50/month. With phone, have to watch out for payable phone numbers, but the rest are free.

They tried to put it up recently to £32, but i said i was going elsewhere so they kept it as above.

PS,,,,,You can also get talktalk unlimited internet at £19.99 a month, with free weekend phone calls, and after 6PM free midweek calls.

Router costs £7 extra for talktalk services.

I was with Talk Talk for 5 years and when it worked it was amazing but If you had a problem it took ages to get sorted, Other than that they were great.

Talktalk are getting better at getting BT out now to fix the line. Usually 2 or 3 days max. if you go a week without broadband and phone, you can ask and get compensation off your next monthly payment (a weeks worth).

Twice last year BT openreach messed up my line, as the local termination box is ancient, and when they fix one line, they damage the connectors to others. Needs a new termination box. This is what happens when you live out in the sticks (countryside).

i happy with Virgin, have been for years, depends how important TV is as well, and if you have cable in your area.

Not that it goes wron often, but if it does, 1 phonecall, not a battle between BT and ISP whose fault it is :(

Not exactly encouraging as I've never had the line needing fixing in about 20 years.

There we have a plus.
I could throw a stone and hit the local exchange 'If it wasn't for the houses in between'.

Open Reach have been optically cabling the area, including our street, for about three months but I still can't find anyone offering FTTP.

Not heard good reports of them for reliability but it would get fibre into the house.

In my experience they're way more reliable than other providers - and if anything goes wrong, as said above, it's just VM you deal with.
Also, I don't think it's actually fibre into the house.  Maybe there are differences but it's a fibre network but the last run into the house is copper co-ax.
The speeds they quote will be pretty much what you get too.
