Pensioner stabs burglar to death

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 5th April 2018, 09:03

A 78 year old pensioner and wife was being burgled by two burglars, with one holding a big screwdriver to the pensioner,  and a struggle ensued, and the 35 year old burglar was stabbed by something the pension managed to pick up, and later died.

I for one hate burglars getting into your house, and they deserve everything they get, and if caught should be given maximum sentences, as there is nothing worse than your house being ransacked and your family put at risk.

Pretty sure I'd do the same.

I remember the last weird case of poetic justice, where three burglars was interupted trying to break in to a house under a garden fence, and it was those types of fences that are six foot long six foot high, and trapped in between slots in concrete risers, and two burglars were lifting one six foot fence section up in the risers  so the other burlar could slip in underneath, and thats when they were startled by the house owner who shouted at them.

The two burglars then instantly dropped the fence and scarpered, leaving the other burglar guillotined by the weight of the fence onto his head, and that killed the burglar.

What are your rights to protect yourself....

Heard someone on the radio last night talking about equivalence of force.

'So if someone is hitting me I can't shoot them'

How about if you're 85 being hit by a 16 stone fit 20 something? (Legality of firearm ownership aside). This kind of statement always leaves me a bit open mouthed. As if you would stand there rummaging through the kitchen drawer for a knife of equivalent size. You would use the first thing to hand whether it was a bread knife, flower vase or even the dogs lead.

All those screaming about the old guy being arrested on a murder charge should wind their necks in. If he's charged that's another issue.

This is the thing, people seem to forget the justice system. They want policemen to decide whether someone is guilty or not, all they are doing is deciding if under the guidelines they are supposed to be following, if they should arrest someone.

After that, there are more guidelines about if they should charge someone, and even if they charge someone it is still up to a judge, or a jury to decide if they used reasonable force.

This isn't the same thing as a guy who lives in the middle of nowhere shooting someone in the back who is fleeing from his property after trying to steal things.

Absolutely, it seems an open and shut case but we don't actually know that and need to allow due process to take place before we reach any conclusions.

I remember the uproar over Tony Martin at the time, but can't remember if there was a massive volte face when it was discovered he'd shot the burglar in the back...

I don't think there was, at least as far as the Sun was concerned. They had been pushing the excuse that the little arses deserved everything they got.

Par for the course, no one deserves to die unless they deliberately seek to end the life of others, and even then that's debatable...

Not in the case quoted but if someone has broken into your house I think you're entitled to assume the worst.
I'm certainly not asking for a CV and waiting for them to fill out a questionnaire.

when I rented with some mates in London (Loughton so not really London), 20 odd years ago I got home as I was being burgled, weekday afternoon, I assume they had been keeping an eye on the place and thought we'd all be at work, but I had the week off and missus (gf then) was visiting me.

Anyway, I got home front door was wide open, thought that was odd, so called out my house mates' names, someone run past me through front garden, jumped over fence, someone else ran at me I grabbed hold of him, we both stared at each other, I think both thinking "what's he going to do to me" as he looked scared, and in the panic he wriggled away from me through the door over the fence and off with his mate.

Who knows what would have happened if I had punched him, he could have been armed, his mate could have been armed and come back for him, I could have done something "stupid" to him. At the time the missus and I were v shaken and glad we weren't hurt, and got back before anything was stolen.

police came round for statement a few hours later, then a week later the photofit person came round! I remember saying to the lady " he looks nothing like that but I really can't describe him any better, it was a week ago and a bit of a blur"

then a week after that, I got home from work to find we had been burgled :(
