Quote:

Twitter (/ˈtwɪtər/) is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, known as "tweets."
it's about anything and everything, for anyone more or less to say what they want more or less about anything, so liek the internet as a whole, you get some useful intelligent posts about interesting things, you get funny posts, you get purile nonsense, and you get misinformation and lies. It's part of the internet so you pick and choose what bits of it you want to listen to.

as for how do you know who you are chatting to, well

official accounts for companies/celebrities have a tick by them
e.g. https://twitter.com/stephenfry
so you know it's the comedians offical account, rather than a fan one, or someone with same name. Of course it may not actually eb used by teh celeb, could just be marketign team etc

as for making friends, that's not really what twitter is for, I'm sure ppl have used it for that, but it's more a soapbox for ppl to spout bollocks to inflate their ego ;)

Sometime you need to be in Twitter to get on another website's signing in procedure, as its the only means of signing in. (Maybe they have some deal with Twitter, I do not know).

I am not into social media stuff, but had to join because of the above, so created a total fake identity and name, and never follow anyone's account or twitter anyone (make comment).

Occasionally I put a daft picture in my page, to keep my account active. So it does not go dormant.

Funny thing was that I had a French female stocker following me once, (assuming she was a French female ) how she found my page I will never know, as my name is so obscure, so have had a follower of one...LOL.

It's easy to get sucked into Twitter and whilst it can do some good, it's overwhelmingly poor and full of people who just want to disagree with everyone for the sake of it and get people sacked for something they said or did that is for the most part quite trivial in the grand scheme of things.

I walked away from it in January as I finally saw behind the curtain and realised that people weren't engaging in debate to change their minds but merely to insult each other and get satisfaction from their own echo chamber of views...

We saw Reg D Hunter live a few weeks ago, very funny as he was last time we saw him as well. He said he deliberately antagonizes racists, fascists etc, but ends up sometimes having good debates with them, and in a wierd way a kind of mutual respect!

He mentioned to one of them he had to go back to USA to see his sick father, I can't remember the exact words, but one replied something like "I hate everything about you, but hope all the best for your father"!

Maybe not the most sensible opening line after a post on porn bots.Quote:

That very much depends on who you follow or allow onto your timeline I find it quite an enjoyable place even though Piers chuffing Morgan keeps creeping on due to the amount of people who retweet him.
You do have to allow some stuff you disagree with otherwise what's the point. I just hold it down to those who can string more than a sentence or two together, don't post in CAPS and are capable of coherent thought over more than a tweet.

One of my friends said he spoke to Miley Cyrus,
I don’t really think he spoke to her on text,
I think he spoke to someone but not her.

I have never seen the excitement of talking to a celebrity.

I have in the past ignored the Big yin (Billy Connolly) walking past him in the same London street.

Or maybe he just ignored me
