Most of us Brits were brought up on a feast of served up USA shows in the 60's onwards, so we got to hear and learn many an American accent.....for example MASH (various US accents), Kojak (located in New York), and my favorite was Cheers (located in Boston)....

I miss Kojak good series both brothers died of cancer.I mean Telly Savalas and his side kick was his brother. Both good actors.
Greek Americans, brother George Savalas correction he died on 1985 of Leukemia.

American TV was also responsible for learning most Europeans the English language. 

I have a few east Europeans working for me and they speak perfect English after being brought up on USA and UK TV series

And I also heard a few of my Uk friends
Actually like Americans movies more, go
