Smart Homes

Has anyone dipped their toe into this market yet either in terms of basic smart bulbs, sockets/switches or gone all-in with wireless heating units & room thermostats?

There are loads of options out there now and I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences with any...?

I have Alexa in my flat, in two rooms.
She's connected up to all the lights across all my rooms.
Took a while to get used to ask someone to turn lights on and off, now it's second nature and I find it weird when I stay at anyone's house now who doesn't have it that I actually have to get off my fat arse and press a button!

All in all pretty good, although it's frustrating when Alexa doesn't listen to me or says she's done something when she clearly hasn't turned the bathroom light on! It's like being married again!

I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i`m dying are the best i`ve ever had.

Maybe Amazon should release a nag app.

Has people not learned from these Si-fi horror films on automated buildings going rogue and killing everyone, by suffocation, lift falls, electrocution and getting burned to death in the garbage incinerator, these stories were from the TV Avengers in the 60's all the way up to movies in the cinema today.

So I will stick with pressing a light switch, plus it gets my fat arse of the chair and gives me exercise

I have a few Alexa dots that I rarely use for Alexa (really should do!) but also have a couple of wifi plugs that are Alexa enabled and they're great.  I also use the dots to control and choose music on my Sonos speakers too.
I was looking at lightbulbs before Christmas but didn't get around to getting them but will do.  Will probably get ones that connect direct to wifi (and Alexa) as opposed to the Phillips Hue type that need a separate hub.
My fave gadget is simply my Harmony Elite remote control.

Anyone with an Alexa? Choose your own adventures!

Quote:
To start, simply say "Alexa, open Choose Your Own Adventure from Audible" to enable the skill on your Echo device. Since it's considered a skill for kids, you'll be prompted to provide permission for it. You'll then be instructed to choose between two titles: the Abominable Snowman or Journey Under the Sea.
