Agreed. Did it for my lads 21st.
Sunny day makes a difference.

Must've had naff double glazing in yours. Only on the sixth floor and no problems with noise at all.

No one has mentioned Coney Island, get the train to coney island mate, get the worlds most famous hot dog there, there is an old wooden roller coaster, 1st time i went i had a great time, 2nd i couldn't remember what i really enjoyed, go figure, but worth the visit i would say, i think the Cosmos still play football there if there is a game on, also try to hit the sports venues, baseball, football (american and proper), MSG, have a google and see if their are any concerts you fancy and i went to the last minute ticket place in time square and went to an off broadway murder mystery play at the Jerry orbach theatre which was excellent and well worth the entry fee. Also the staten island ferry for empire state is the best free ticket on the planet :)

USS Intrepid a retired US Navy ship there that you can visit... makes our ships look like rowing boats!

Of note you will find that American businesses are very supportive of Emergency Service, Military Service Personnel and retired veterans (US & UK), so if you have an ID Card or Veterans membership, take it... many places let you in free, or heavily discount, even shops offer 10% plus, off their sale prices.

Also Billy Joel regulalry plays Madison Square Gardens...

Jeez, I'm shattered..
So, got home this morning and had a few hours sleep.  Hope will be OK sleeping tonight..
Well WOW.  Absolutely amazing place.  Yup, it's big.
We got the our hotel (Times Square) by the AirTrain and Subway to within 100yds or so of hotel.  Probably about $45 return for us all.
Things we did:...

  • Times Square
  • Ground Zero & 9/11 Museum.  Difficult to do justice just what a job they have done here.  The museum is an astonishing feat of engineering in itself and so so respectfully done.  Seriously, seriously well done 'America'.  Very, very emotional.
  • Battery Park/'coastal' walk.
  • Staten Island ferry to view Statue of Liberty.
  • Subway across to Brooklyn and walked back across the Brooklyn Bridge. Brilliant.
  • Wall St.
  • Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen
  • The High Line - brilliant.
  • USS Intrepid (didn't go on).
  • Top of the Rock.  Views!!
  • Empire State Building.
  • Various 'building' spotting including Chrysler Building, New York Library, Grand Central Terminal, Madison Sq Gardens and others.
  • Central Park and Natural History Museum.  Strawberry Fields and Dakota Building.
  • Ate well.. :)
  • Lots of other stuff my barely functioning brain has forgotten.
Cheers for the tips all, they really helped to make a truly memorable trip.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
