Lauren Bacall.

No remedies, but you might try recording a jazz album.

I always catch colds when i am in a queue, so nowadays, i just leave the queue if someone is coughing and spluttering up, and then rejoin queue later on.

it took me years to find something that soothed the throat and stopped that hacking cough, and it is this stuff (not sure if you can get it in the USA, but you can check, and also check if it is allowed into the USA or not, as some medicines are not allowed in).

Its Lemsip cough dry Linctus, and I take two spoonfuls of this liquid.
Price in UK is around £4.30, so that around $6.

If you cannot get it, then there may be a 'Cough dry linctus' American equivalent.

From NHS website:

A person with a cold can start spreading it from a few days before their symptoms begin until the symptoms have finished. The best ways to avoid catching a cold are:

  • washing your hands with warm water and soap
  • not sharing towels or household items (like cups) with someone who has a cold
  • not touching your eyes or nose in case you've come into contact with the virus – it can infect the body this way
  • staying fit and healthy

I'd add to that... avoid all children!

yes, I had been warned of this, the girls started school this year, were at preschool before, for the last month, I've hardly stopped coughing and sneezing. Actually the current cold is different to the last few, this one is a sore throat, have lost my voice (which doesn't usually happen with me with colds) and an annoyingly unproductive cough. I've stopped taking cough medicine, cold medicines etc as

a) it was getting bloody expensive(even using shops own)
b) my stomach was starting to feel very bad from all the chemicals inside it :(

alcohol would help, but the noise of the others coughing doesn't :( The girls are "lucky", they cough in their sleep, and don't wake themselves/each other up, I however hear and am awake for every single cough :(

I cannot avoid my Gabriel my three year grandson , I take care of him every Monday and Tuesday and he goes three days a week to a lovely daycare. And we do wash our hands a lot.But a lot of these colds are air borne and it's everywhere. My health I consider good because the only meds I take is one thyroid pill. , not bad for 66 yrs old. But when it comes to colds and asthmatic my weak points☹️.

I don't think that's how you catch them really, but when people who have colds are touching surfaces, and you are touching surfaces, and you touch your face and eyes and mouth, it's hard not to transfer the germs.

Lemsip or Beechams powders... as for coughs i have found Bronchostop Pastilles the best, they contain thyme so an acquired taste, but they really do work!

I don't catch colds much but my family does and i make this easy remedy if they are in bad shape....

Juice a full lemon into a pan along with 2 cup fulls of water, grate a thumb sized piece of ginger into it and a teaspoon of honey then sprinkle some paprika into it and let it simmer for at least 15 mins but not boil.

Then drain through a strainer into a mug.

Better than any bought remedy and much cheaper.
