RE: Photobucket now payable

I only rescued 20% of my album as the rest was no longer wanted.

I just clicked on the first photo, and that opened them all fully one at a time, then as we can no longer save them easily, I used my standard 'Snipping tool' on windows, to take a rectangular cutting of each photo in turn and save them to a new folder in my computer. Took me about three hours though.

PS...I put notice in to close my account on the 1st of the month and it is still active, even though it says my account will be close in 48 hours, and thats over a week now.

I wonder if Photobucket is refusing to close accounts now, as they must have been overwhelmed by the anger ,and may be having a rethink about pricing?

But if it is not free, forget it. I am now with Imgur, which is free.

Maybe Rob could download all the images referenced on the site and then do a mass find/replace of all image URL's and re-link them to images hosted here.  Saves all the older threads looking silly and something to do to fill a spare half hour.

£$^%&)*!!!!

I've used PB for years to embed images onto forums/websites.

So what are the recommended alternatives, please, folks?

I joined www Imgur com as its free and easy to use.

Once joined, just slide your image from your computer onto upload rectangular box, and once uploaded, name the image, it then gives you links to embed in other websites.

In my panicked search for an alternative, I also found...

https://picload.org/
http://postimages.org/

Haven't tried them yet, as my PB links still aren't busted.

PB's 'download album' thing doesn't seem to work - probably millions of people trying to download billions of photos. What a bunch of cretins PB are.

Thanks Bandicoot/Jitendar, looks like I'll be shifting to Imgur.

I never received any prior warning from PB that they were doing this, just an email after I posted on here saying that I should upgrade to the payable service (no amounts mentioned in the email, just a link).

Also just realised that I have no chance of replacing my historical embedded images on forums unless I trawl through all my forum posts and manually replace the links to Imgur ones (an impossible task).

What a bunch of utter cnuts.

Photobucket addresses the backlash as millions leave by closing their free accounts...

'Sustainablilty' is their answer, which is not much good if they have lost a large percentage of website traffic, as ex-members no longer visit.

Got my extortion/blackmail email today. Think I'll leave it a while before deleting the account as the image at the bottom of this post really is the only one I use regularly as it seems to still be working ok

I did spend a bit of time looking at an easy quick way to get all the image URLs and replace them with local ones, but I need to actually write a script which will take longer.

Trying to find the time for that (so busy atm!).
